The Mesa Tribune: FRONT PAGE STORIES...So, "Who's on the way to be Mesa's Next Manager??"

Former long-time City Manager had announced at the beginning of January 2025 that he will retire on May 31, 2025, concluding a transformative 19-year tenure leading the nation's 36th largest city.
  • Brady will transition to a new role as a Mission Leader for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
  • He will work closely with the Mayor and City Council in the coming months to ensure a smooth transition as they select Mesa"s next city manager.
To tell the truth, Butler has been with the city for 21 years - two more years than Chris Brady - starting out as a council assistant to then-Vice Mayor Claudia Waters. He was the director of the city’s government relations when Brady promoted him to deputy city manager and eventually to the role Butler now holds.
The Mesa City Council is expected Monday - TODAY on March 03, 2025 - to confirm Butler as Mesa’s next city manager.

  • Vice Mayor Scott Somers asked Butler to explain how the roles he’s held for the past 21 years prepared him for the top administrator’s job.
  • Butler responded that in all his positions there has been cross-department collaborations, which gave him insight on how each department functions and also allowed him to build relationships within the city.
