Cultural Coalition is excited to welcome everyone to our 7th Annual Portal Festival presented by Desert Diamond Casinos at the S'edav Va'aki Museum this Saturday, November 22 from 10 a.m to 2 p.m.
As part of Native
American Heritage month, the festival features something fun,
educational, and cultural for the whole family. Join us at 10 a.m. as we
start the festivities with a traditional Toka Tournament. A game that
is similar to field hockey, it is played by women and young girls of the
four southern Arizona tribes using sticks and a “puck” made from
materials gathered in the desert.
Following the toka
matches, there will be live music, cultural presentations, and
traditional arts demonstrations. The Museum will also be offering a
variety of interactive and hands-on activities for visitors to explore
the history of the archaeological site and its importance in the legacy
of water engineered by the Ancestral Sonoran Desert People.
