THIS SATURDAY AT PORTAL FEST

Cultural Coalition is excited to welcome everyone to our 7th Annual Portal Festival presented by Desert Diamond Casinos at the S'edav Va'aki Museum this Saturday, November 22 from 10 a.m to 2 p.m.

As part of Native American Heritage month, the festival features something fun, educational, and cultural for the whole family. Join us at 10 a.m. as we start the festivities with a traditional Toka Tournament. A game that is similar to field hockey, it is played by women and young girls of the four southern Arizona tribes using sticks and a “puck” made from materials gathered in the desert.

Following the toka matches, there will be live music, cultural presentations, and traditional arts demonstrations. The Museum will also be offering a variety of interactive and hands-on activities for visitors to explore the history of the archaeological site and its importance in the legacy of water engineered by the Ancestral Sonoran Desert People.

RAIN OR SHINE

Living in the desert, we recognize rain as a blessing! In the event of precipitation, the Festival and Museum activities will continue indoors:

  • All primary festival activities will be moved inside to the Community Room or inside the Museum.
  • The Toka Match will continue outdoors, unless the rainfall becomes severe and unsafe.

PRESERVE THE ARTS ON GIVING TUESDAY

On December 2, Giving Tuesday, let's come together to preserve the cultural arts.

Individual Donors support the work our staff and artists do to preserve the legacy of Chicano, Latiné, and Indigenous cultures through the arts.

From bringing our artists to museums and libraries, to operating our After School Arts Programs, YOUR gift makes a difference every day!

WIN AN AMOR CALACA MUG

Almost three weeks later and we are STILL glowing about how much fun we had at the 14th Annual MIKIZTLI: Día de los Muertos Festival!

Being in a new space at the Arizona Center, with a new day and time, we would love to know about your experience at the festival.

NEXT WEEK - Two lucky survey takers will be chosen to win a calaca mug by artist Patrick Murillo!

Hearing from our community is important for us to continue providing meaningful, enjoyable arts experiences for all ages. Have your voice heard! TAKE OUR SURVEY by November 26 for a chance to win.
