Facebook is at the center of some of the most important questions in American life: How can we distinguish truth from fiction online? How can society develop fairly in an era of artificial intelligence? Can technology bring us together, or will it drive us apart? Chris Cox, chief product officer at Facebook, will discuss all these questions and more with Nicholas Thompson, editor in chief of Wired.

A REAL EYE-OPENER: Jeremy Whittaker The Only Mesa City Councilmember Doing His Job

It's never too soon or too late TO SEE how City government works here in Mesa, Arizona. Clearly there's once again a lot on the agenda for yet another "Study Session", with so many items clogging-up a review for the proposed Consent Agenda during a 20-minute public session held on Monday, July 2, 2018 in the Lower Chamber - it is an eye-opener in more ways than one.
Take the time to watch the inserted streaming video uploaded from YouTube - it can be very revealing for those citizens who choose to tune-in on the next-to-last day's on the schedule for public meetings of city officials looking ahead to Monday, July 9th. After that there's a break until August 20.
Notice that all the council seats are occupied with all seven members present and accounted for with the mayor as chairman starting off in the usual hum-drum way quickly reading off more than 40 items as 'various this' and 'various that' until there's another one of those getting-real-tired Power Point Slide Presentation by Scott Butler, sliding through all the six ballot items to appear for voter approval on this November's General Election. Few significant details are highlighted, with referrals made to go to the city's website for more information - then questions get started. . .
Mayor John Giles, tentative on shaky ground as usual handling points-of-order and following proper procedures, looks to guidance from both Chris Brady, the Chief Executive and City Manager and Jim Smith, Attorney for City of Mesa.
First of all PLEASE NOTICE that closed captions appear on the screen.
Few members of the public are present.
Except for District 6 Councilmember Kevin Thompson raising questions about a $2.1-Million parking expenditure, poo-poohed as paltry by the City Manger, Jeremy Whittaker is the only Mesa City Council actively engaged.

Readers of this blog can watch that give-and-take here, resulting in the removal of items on the Consent Agenda for Monday's July 9th meeting for more individual scrutiny/attention:
