Media Release From City of Mesa Newsroom Needs Some Work

What's the story here from the City of Mesa's Neighborhood Outreach Office claiming that the Little Libraries Program was developed through the Imagine Mesa Initiative?
There's been one inside the Mesa Urban Garden for at least four years. Another one in the 'urban parklet' on Main Street next to Milano's Music and another one at El Rancho de Sol as of June 2018.
Little Libraries Program comes to Mesa
July 9, 2018 at 2:06 pm
"Beginning Monday, July 9 the Neighborhood Outreach Office will launch the Mesa Little Libraries Program. The program supports Mesa residents in creating Little Libraries to inspire a love of reading through book exchanges and to foster connections in neighborhoods. This program was developed through the Imagine Mesa Initiative and is modeled after the national Little Free Libraries program with permission from Little Free Library, LTD.
A Little Library is a "take a book, return a book" free book exchange. They come in many shapes and sizes, but the most common version is a small wooden box of books. Anyone may take a book or bring a book to share.
This year, the City of Mesa is committed to funding a minimum of six libraries with opportunities to expand if community interest increases. All applicants will be reviewed on a first come, first serve basis, subject to availability of funds, completion of required paperwork and project approval by the Neighborhood Outreach Office. . .

https://democracynow.org - A major U.S. military and CIA contractor has been detaining dozens of migrant children inside a vacant Phoenix office building with dark windows, no kitchen and only a few toilets, according to a new investigation by Reveal from the Center for Investigative Reporting. Reveal learned about what some are calling the “black site” for migrant children after one local resident filmed children in sweatsuits being led into the building. The building was leased in March by MVM, a defense contractor that Reveal reports has received nearly $250 million in contracts to transport immigrant children since 2014. We speak with the lead reporter on this story, Aura Bogado, in Oakland, California. She is the immigration reporter for Reveal from the Center for Investigative Reporting.

New Thinking: U R = Data Mine

That's right and it's about time to see this:

A growing idea:

Big Tech should pay people for their data

"Big Tech is being challenged by a new strain of thought: that it should pay people for their data. The current arrangement — data for free search and friendship services — is insufficient, the new thinking goes.
Why it matters: If adopted, the argument — pressed by tech thinkers, economists and a new book — could erode billions of dollars of profit from companies like Google and Facebook, along with China's Alibaba and Tencent. Meanwhile, an undetermined amount of money, though probably just a few dollars to start, would go into the pockets of ordinary people around the world. . .

Here's A Teaser for East Valley Tribune Staff Writer Jim Walsh

Your MesaZona blogger encourages you to read a front page report that appeared in the pulp hardcopy of the Sunday East Valley Tribune that happens to feature a side-by-side image of District 4 Mesa City Council member Jeremy Whittaker (l) and Mike 'EVP Hutch' who used to be the City Manager here in Mesa prior to 2006. Jim Walsh notes that some people staged what resembled a rally 'the Mesa Plays project appeared to launch on-cue as speaker after speaker touted the sprawling project' . . .
What's missing in the online version  is the breakdown of Where the money would go and how the $196 million bond issue up for voters' action Nov 6 would be allocated, according to a city presentation.

O Yeah Mesa Plays . . . Mesa Plays Taxpayers For Fools
Mike Hutchinson, former Mesa
City Manager praises Mesa Plays
Two years ago voters here in Mesa got informed and smart enough when they REJECTED taking on more debt by defeating the bogus Yes1Mesa ballot proposition in the 2016 November General Election. City Manager Chris Brady and other officials inside and outside of City Hall have now re-packaged a $196-Million Spending Spree as 'a grab-bag of goodies for everybody'. Jim Walsh, Tribune Staff writer, got the story right in today's Sunday East Valley Tribune when he wrote "A Mesa City Council meeting resembled a rally for the proposed Mesa Plays soccer complex, . . the campaign appeared to launch almost on cue as speaker after speaker touted the sprawling project . . . "
Once again the stage to influence voters is getting set. . .
Clearly, EVT writer Jim Walsh recognizes that Whittaker has been consistent questioning the city's spending using more bond debt financed on the backs and out-of-the-pockets of taxpayers, a heavy reliance by the Enterprise Fund generated with hikes in fees/charges for utilities, and the need for taxpayers to pay up later. . . he's quoted as stating "If we want to save our money and build Mesa Plays, that's an honest conversation." Earlier he made a convincing argument questioning the city's budget presentations  for the next fiscal year based on principles on his website www.jeremywhittaker.com

Whittaker questions and criticizes vocally a number of issues  (Please use the Search Box at the upper left-hand top to find a few posts on this blog about those subjects that include links to streaming videos of Mesa City Council Study Sessions and Regular Meetings)
At the General Election, the qualified electors of the City shall vote on the following measures:
Question 1 Alternative Expenditure Limitation (Home Rule)
Question 2 City Transaction Privilege (“Sales”) Tax Increase - Public Safety
Question 3 General Obligation Bonds - Public Safety
Question 4 General Obligation Bonds - Parks & Cultural
Question 5 Charter Section 613 - Construction of a Sports and Events Complex
Question 6 Bed Tax Increase
