Mesa Morning Live Community Spotlight: Mesa Mayor John Giles

What's so wrong with this?
Mesa taxpayers pay for this city-owned news source that consistently attracts few viewers in a city of over 475,000 people! . . . and here's the mayor in one more staged spotlight-opportunity and who knows what "Community" he's talking to????

This New York evolution animation illustrates the development of NYC’s street grid and infrastructure systems from 1609 to the present-day, using geo-referenced road network data and historic maps. The resulting short film presents a series of “cartographic snapshots” of NYC’s built-up area at intervals of every 20-30 years in the city’s history.

New York's Surreal $20 Billion Hudson Yards Project | Phase 1 Completed ...

It's not Moscow-on-The-Hudson . . .The plans for Hudson Yards were developed after the failure of the West Side Stadium. Construction began in 2012 with the groundbreaking for 10 Hudson Yards, and the first phase - a public green space and eight structures that contain residences, a hotel, office buildings, a mall, and a cultural facility - is expected to be finished by March 15, 2019

Hudson Yards is a real estate development under construction in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. It is the largest private real estate development in the United States by square footage, and has been compared to Roppongi Hills, a Japanese development similar in scale and use. Upon completion, 13 of the 16 planned structures will sit on a platform built over the West Side Yard, a storage yard for Long Island Rail Road trains. The first of its two phases comprises a public green space and eight structures that contain residences, a hotel, office buildings, a mall, and a cultural facility. The second focuses on residential space, along with an office building and a school.
Related Companies is the primary developer, and Oxford Properties is a major equity partner. Mitsui Fudosan owns a 92.09 percent stake in 55 Hudson Yards, and a 90 percent stake in 50 Hudson Yards. The architectural firm Kohn Pedersen Fox designed the master plan for the site, and architects including Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill, Thomas Heatherwick, Roche-Dinkeloo, and Diller Scofidio + Renfro contributed designs for individual structures. Major office tenants include or will include fashion company Tapestry, consulting firm BCG, and Alphabet subsidiary Sidewalk Labs.
The site of Hudson Yards was initially intended for other developments, most notably in the early 2000s as the site of the West Side Stadium, during the New York City bid for the 2012 Summer Olympics. The plans for Hudson Yards were developed after the failure of the West Side Stadium. Construction began in 2012 with the groundbreaking for 10 Hudson Yards, and the first phase is expected to be finished by March 15, 2019. Both phases are projected to be complete by 2024. Agreements between various entities including the local government, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), and the state of New York made the development possible.
The special zoning for Hudson Yards (an area roughly bound by 30th Street in the south, 41st Street in the north, 11th Avenue in the west, and Eighth Avenue in the east) further incentivized the building of other large-scale projects. Hudson Yards is adjacent but unrelated to Manhattan West, 3 Hudson Boulevard, and The Spiral.

Downtown Gilbert Gets A "New Icon" > A Goofy Gopher

KTAR News Photo/Kevin Stone
Go figure that! There's somethin' about the buzzwords "New Icon" that make your MesaZona blogger go nutzzz all the time. . . and there's somethin' else about the buzzwords "in the spirit" that really tick-me-off! . . . and a word way-over-used excited. . . O Yeah! Add the word "Heritage" too + and of maybe or might be
It's all about an imaginary re-creating the long-gone past. Here in Mesa we get [appropriately] INFLATABLES popping up as aliens or temporary art in Pioneer Park.
So here we go > to the town of Gilbert for this KTAR story yesterday
Downtown Gilbert’s newest star is a giant gopher
atop a snack shack
By | 08 March 2019
PHOENIXMove over, water tower, downtown Gilbert has a new icon - A GIANT GOPHER  in a hat, staring out over Gilbert Road with illuminated eyes, was installed this week atop a new snack shack.
WHAT'S THAT ALL ABOUT? Need some details?
. . . The critter’s hat resembles something that might be seen on the head of owner Joe Johnston – the Gilbert entrepreneur behind Joe’s Real BBQ, Liberty Market, Joe’s Farm Grill and more.
Was it a "months-long mystery" for anyone anytime before what reporter Kevin Stone now writes is going viral with about 562 hits on Facebook?
The eatery, called Topo, is expected to open sometime next week.
The gopher’s arrival, and subsequent announcements on social media, ended the months-long mystery of what was being built outside Joe’s Real BBQ.

As construction took shape, social media accounts teased the coming of what was called only Black Box Gilbert.
Topo’s website calls the building’s design “iconic roadside architecture in the spirit of the great American road trip.”
With no indoor seating at the snack bar, its limited menu was designed with takeaway in mind. And bring your credit card, because it’s a cashless business.

Now where did your MesaZona blogger get this "news" from?
It's from MENAFN, a provider of financial content and financial technology platforms.
OK so why Mesa Mayor John Giles? He's the only mayor to be featured for interactive discussions to focus on how cities can leverage emerging technologies to tackle some of the biggest civic and municipal challenges. Hmmm. . . . . . .
So maybe something to do with financials and the 2020 Census - and that contentious question about citizenship that might create an under-count for the allocation of federal funds to cities. Yes that can definitely impact Mesa with its history of racial profiling by Sheriff Joe Arpaio and notorious Mesa Republican Russell Pearce, infamous for SB1070
