PHOENIX — Conservative Arizona lawmaker Sylvia Allen would ban discussing homosexuality in sexual education classes in the state's public and charter schools, part of sweeping legislation that would create new obstacles to sex education classes.
Allen, a Republican state senator from Snowflake, has already scheduled the bill for a hearing next Tuesday – the second day of the new legislative session – before the Senate Education Committee, which she chairs.
The bill, SB 1082, would strike the word "homosexuality" from the definition of sexual conduct that can be discussed in Arizona schools.
It would also ban sex education before seventh grade; under current law, sex-ed or health education can begin in kindergarten.

Boréas' BOS1211 haptic driver chip -- announced at CES 2020
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 07, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Boréas Technologies, developer of ultra-low-power haptic technologies for consumer and commercial products, today demonstrated at CES 2020® the BOS1211, the first low-power high-voltage piezoelectric driver integrated circuit (IC) to enable high-definition (HD) haptic feedback in automotive human machine interfaces (HMIs), such as automotive infotainment screens and safety alerts in touch-sensitive steering wheels.
. . . To meet the needs of the automotive market, Boréas is partnering with TDK, the world’s leading supplier of piezoelectric haptic actuators.“Touch HMIs in cars are evolving with the times,” said Stefan Benkhof, head of product marketing of the TDK Piezo Business Unit.
“From the knobs and buttons of one-hundred years ago to the flat screens that came to market over the last twenty years, clear and responsive haptics marks the next important interface advancement in automobiles. It’s companies like Boréas and TDK that are responsible for such advancements. We’re delighted that our combined technologies offer the clearest, most realistic and long-lasting piezo haptic solutions to our automotive customers around the world.”

Aresearch study conducted by the United States Air Force and Arizona State Universityii concluded that drivers responded more effectively to tactile warnings, delivered via the gas pedal or the seat than to visual or auditory warnings when alerted to rear-end collisions. While research on whether tactile vs. auditory or visual stimuli leads to more distracted driving is ongoing, some researchers agree that the cognitive load on the human brain is less when that feedback is tactile.
Piezo Haptics at CES 2020
TDK will showcase its lineup of 120V PowerHap piezo haptic actuators during CES 2020, January 7-10, 2020 at the TDK booth (LVCC, Central Hall, # 11448). Boréas will help to drive TDK’s haptic actuators into automotive applications and is available for demonstrations by appointment only at the Boréas booth (LVCC, South Hall 4, #35824) — as well as at the TDK booth.

Maracay, a wholly owned company of the TRI Pointe Group (NYSE: TPH), has closed on 127 homesites spread out among two parcels in the third and final residential phase of Cadence at Gateway, a vibrant master-planned community of 464 acres along the bustling Gateway corridor in Mesa.
Maracay paid $10.92 million for the two parcels of partially finished homesites on a finished basis, with a portion to be funded once the remaining land improvements are completed.
The post-closing improvements are currently underway and are being managed by Amy Weidman of Otago Development.
The transaction between Maracay and the seller, PPGN-Crimson LLLP, an entity owned by Harvard Investments (Tim Brislin, Vice President), was brokered by Nate Nathan of Nathan & Associates in Scottsdale.
Maracay anticipates the community will open for sales in early 2021.
“Maracay is excited to bring new home designs to Cadence, one of the most highly-amenitized master planned communities in the East Valley,” said Jason Weber, Maracay’s vice president of land acquisitions and development. “Harvard Investments really has delivered an amazing master plan in a great location where future residents can walk to the 12,000-square-foot clubhouse and pools, or take a short bike ride to the public amenities in the Eastmark Great Park.”
“Access to work will be even more convenient once the SR 24 interchange is constructed only a half mile south of Phase 3, where Maracay will build alongside Toll Brothers,” he added.
The community was engineered by EPS Group (Daniel “Ox” Auxier) and land planned by Greey Pickett (Wendell Pickett).
