From The Office of Arizona Governor Doug Ducey: Heading into August...

WHAT A WEEK it was all over the world, but let's take a scant look to scroll it down here to check if he forgot to mention or include anything important to most people

The last week of July was a busy one for Governor Ducey. The highpoint may have been when the Governor joined KORE Power to announce it selected Arizona for its lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility, which will generate about 13,000 jobs.

What's more, Arizona's new tax plan is garnering praise at the national level, the hospitality industry is bouncing back, and education leaders are coming together to protect students and school choice. Read about all this and more below.
Governor Ducey Issues Statement On New CDC Guidance
"Public health officials in Arizona and across the country have made it clear that the best protection against COVID-19 is the vaccine. Today’s announcement by the CDC will unfortunately only diminish confidence in the vaccine and create more challenges for public health officials 一 people who have worked tirelessly to increase vaccination rates."

Kore Power Selects Arizona Site One Million Square Foot "Koreplex" Lithium-ion Battery Manufacturing Facility
KORE Power plans to employ more than 3,000 full-time personnel at the facility, which will generate upwards of an estimated 10,000 direct and indirect jobs. The construction of KOREPlex will employ an estimated 3,400 workers during peak construction.
Governor Ducey Urges Delegation To Protect Charter School Students
Governor Ducey this week urged Arizona’s Congressional Delegation to oppose federal legislation that will jeopardize critical funding the state’s public charter schools receive and put thousands of students at risk.
Governor Ducey Thanks ADHS Director Dr. Christ For Longtime, Dedicated Service To Arizona
Governor Ducey this week announced Arizona Department of Health Services Director Dr. Cara Christ, who has been instrumental in the state’s COVID-19 response, will leave her position on August 27 for another leadership role as chief medical officer for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona.
Newsweek Opinion: Arizona Tax Reform Is A National Model
"By lowering the income tax rate and making the tax code flatter, the tax burden on all Arizonans is reduced, and families will see real, long-term relief that's desperately needed. This tax reduction will also boost Arizona's competitiveness, making the state more desirable for both individuals and pass-through businesses, as a majority of small businesses pay taxes under the individual tax code."
Governor Ducey Statement On The Dobbs V. Jackson Women's Health Organization Amicus Brief
“The Constitution preserves the rights of the states by specifically enumerating the authority granted to the federal government. Unfortunately, almost 50 years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court decided to ignore the Constitution and created policy which has led to the over-politicization of this issue for decades."
Governor Ducey, Hospitality Leaders Discuss Continued Economic Growth
Governor Ducey this week met with leaders of the hospitality industry at the Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort to discuss Arizona’s job recovery, growing economy and tourism opportunities.

The Week in Review

Happy Friday!

It’s time to “Retire the Tyrant.” Frankly, that’s all I am left with at the conclusion of this past week. Nancy Pelosi reimposed the mask mandate for both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals in the U.S. House of Representatives and directed U.S. Capitol Police to arrest anyone failing to comply. Despite overwhelming evidence suggesting the move is futile, it is clear her motives were only about power. Anyways, despite the charade of Dictator Pelosi, my work carried on. Continue reading below to see more important happenings from the week:

Remove Cheney & Kinzinger

On Tuesday, as Chair of the House Freedom Caucus, I sent a letter to Leader McCarthy offering a resolution to remove Representatives Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger from the House Republican Conference. The rule effectively says that any Member of the Conference who accepts a committee assignment or serves on a committee without a recommendation shall immediately cease to be a Member of the Republican Conference. Watch my full remarks below:

Interview on Newsmax with Rob Schmitt

I joined the Rob Schmitt Tonight show on Newsmax to discuss President Biden reimposing a mask mandate. The CDC’s new recommendation to wear masks is based upon a non-peer reviewed study using data from India, which utilizes vaccines not approved for use in the United States. The Democrats continue to flip-flop on the issue of “trusting the science” to protect their narrative. Click on the photo to watch my interview:

It's the People's House

Yesterday, we sent a loud clear message to the Swamp: Pelosi’s tyrannical rule is not welcomed in the people’s House. I led several members of the Republican party in protest of the reimposed mask mandate by walking unmasked from the Senate, where masks are not required, to the House. Despite Nancy Pelosi’s belief that the virus knows not to cross the invisible line between the two chambers, this is not the case. We just thought we’d demonstrate. Click the picture below to see more from our walk to the Senate chamber:

Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security

The House Judiciary Committee met for a hearing titled, "A Fine Scheme: How Court-Imposed Fees and Fines Unjustly Burden Vulnerable Communities." I stressed the need to address the reckless policies of the Biden administration, which have led to the greatest crisis at our southern border and soaring crime, before we focus on smaller issues. Nonetheless, court-imposed fees are a state issue and the federal government should not bribe states to implement specific policies. Click on the photo below to listen to my remarks:

Discussion with Rep. Cline and Rep. Harris on Democrats’ Radical Spending Agenda

As Chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, it was my pleasure to sit down with two of my good friends and colleagues, Congressman Ben Cline and Congressman Andy Harris, M.D., to talk about federal spending. Both members sit on the Appropriations Committee, which is responsible for drafting legislation to use federal dollars. As strong conservatives, my colleagues have been voices of reason on the committee, which otherwise has a spending problem. Click on the photo below to listen in:

Introduced Women's Health Resolution

I reintroduced my resolution recognizing the importance of access to comprehensive, high-quality, life-affirming medical care for women of all ages and the work Pro Women’s Healthcare Centers (PWHC) have done to provide that care. Click on the bill below to read the press release:

Democrats Scramble for Power

I have said all along that Democrats are relishing in their ability to control the lives of Americans and exert their authority over us. After a few months of liberty and allowance for personal responsibility, two hallmarks of the American way of life, Democrats’ grip on power has slipped and they want nothing more than to get it back. If we let them have their way, Democrats would force everyone back into their homes, limit us to pre-approved activities, and provide everyone with government payment to cover the loss of income. They would fulfill the Marxist dystopia of which they all dream. We cannot give into their power trip and fear tactics any longer. We must refuse this interference in our lives and restore the blessings and consequences of the personal freedom upon which our nation was founded.

Appropriations Summary

This week House Democrats brought several appropriations bills to the floor to fund federal departments and agencies. These bills increased spending, removed pro-life protections, and included numerous far-left policy provisions. I, along with many of my Republican colleagues, introduced amendments to these bills in an attempt to undo the damage that these bills will cause. See list of amendments below:

Sponsored Amendments to:
o Prohibit the use of fetal tissue research. Federal funding should never be used to advance research associated with the study of fetal tissue of unborn children.
o Prohibit to issuance of vaccine passports or proof of COVID-19 vaccine status to access federal services or federal property.
o Prohibit the Department of Health and Human Services from releasing an unaccompanied alien child to a sponsor unless the sponsor is the parent or legal guardian of the child, the sponsor is lawfully present in the United States, and the sponsor and every member of the sponsor’s household have passed a criminal background check.
o Prohibit the Biden administration from finalizing a proposed rule to strengthen DACA and a proposed rule to change who qualifies for asylum.
o Prohibit the ATF from finalizing a proposed rule to regulate pistol stabilizing braces.
o Prohibit federal funding from going to sanctuary jurisdictions.
o Strike language from the bill that allows congressional offices to hire DACA recipients.
o Prohibit funding from going to the U.N. Human Rights Council. The U.N. Human Rights Council is made of countries who oppose Israel and use the council to coverup their own human rights abuses. Members of the council include China, Cuba, Pakistan, Russia, and Venezuela.
Cosponsored Amendments to:
o Restore pro-life protections, such as the Hyde Amendment, to the bills. Taxpayer dollars should not be used to pay for abortions.
o Reduce the overall spending levels of the bills.
o Strike language from the bill that prohibits certain charter schools from receiving federal funding. The federal government should not discriminate against charter schools.
o Prohibit federal funding from being used to promote critical race theory. Taxpayer funds should not be used to advance a curriculum that teaches that the United States is systemically racist.
o Strike earmarks from the bill. Earmarks are used by leadership to buy votes for their costly and inflation inducing bills.
o Prohibit funds from being used to repeal, revise, or replace the Trump administration’s Navigable Waters Protection Rule.
o Prohibit funds from being used to fund the U.N.’s Population Fund. The UN Population Fund has supported China’s birth limitation policy which compels women to abort their children and/or be sterilized.
