Does he really want to be a loser president?

Zelenskyy on Trump: Does he really want to be a loser president?

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that if Donald Trump becomes the US President and attempts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine on Moscow’s terms, it will expose the weakness of the US to the world. In an interview with The Guardian, Zelenskyy questioned Trump’s stance, asking if he wants to be remembered as a “loser president.”

“I don’t quite understand: does he really want to be a loser president? Let’s imagine that the president is Trump and, for example, he decides to end the war at Ukraine’s expense. And somehow in the dialogue, he gets confirmation from Putin’s Russian side that it’s a stop, that’s it. Ukrainians will not accept this, but he could then say: ‘That’s it, I’m not giving you any support, no weapons, no finances.’ After this, Putin goes further. Then who will this new President of the United States be for the whole world?” said Zelenskyy.

He warned that such a move would diminish the United States’ global influence and embolden Putin to continue his aggression, potentially leading to a “real third world war.”

Quote: "I don't quite understand: does he [Trump] really want to be a loser president afterwards? Let's imagine that Trump is the president and, for example, he decides to end the war at the expense of Ukraine. And somehow, in the dialogue, he gets confirmation from [Russian ruler Vladimir] Putin on the Russian side that this is a stop, that's it. The Ukrainians will not put up with this, but he can then say: ‘That's it, I'm not giving you any support, there are no weapons, there is no funding'. Maybe he will reach an agreement with some of his partners, and they will also stop [supporting Ukraine]. Of course, Ukraine cannot fight a multimillion-strong army without weapons. Let's just imagine it.

And let's imagine for a second... I think it's 100% likely that this will happen, but let's imagine that it's 10% likely that Putin will not stop after that. What will this new president of the United States look like for the whole world, then? He will then be very weak, and this is not about his personality but about the institutional capacity of the United States. They will become very weak, they will not be leaders of the world."

Details: Zelenskyy believes that the United States will still be mighty in the domestic economy in this case, but its international influence "will amount to zero".

"And then Putin will move on, realising that the United States is no longer such a [strong] player. And then other leaders of other countries, mostly authoritarian, will enter the arena. That's the end of the ceasefire, the beginning of what everyone is so afraid to talk about, a real World War III," the Ukrainian president warned.

Background:

  • Future US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has often boasted that if elected president, he could negotiate a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine within 24 hours. However, he has repeatedly refused to publicly elaborate on how he would make that happen.
  • The Washington Post, citing sources, claimed that Trump seems to be seeking to push Ukraine to make concessions to Russia and transfer Ukrainian territories, in particular Crimea and Donbas, under its control. Trump's campaign adviser, Jason Miller, dismissed these details as fake.
  • In April, CNN said Trump hopes to force Russia and Ukraine to start negotiations on a cessation of hostilities by pressuring them with the argument of further US military assistance.
  • Trump's former adviser, Fiona Hill, said that while he was president of the United States, he made it clear that he believed Ukraine should be part of Russia.
  • Trump himself has said that if he wins the election, he will try to help Ukraine but will simultaneously demand the same efforts from Europe.

🇺🇦 Zelenskyy on 🇺🇸 Trump: Does he want to be a loser president? The US will cease to be a world leader if Trump forces Ukraine to end the war on Russia's terms, Zelenskyy stated. If Putin senses weakness from Washington, he will undoubtedly go further.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy Discussed Further Assistance to Ukraine with the Delegation of the U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee

In Singapore, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a meeting with a bipartisan delegation of the U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee led by its Chairman, Republican Party member Michael McCaul.

The meeting was also attended by the Democratic Co-Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Gregory Meeks, and members of the Committee Young Kim and Joe Wilson (Republican Party), and Joe Courtney (Democratic Party).

The Head of State thanked the congressmen for advocating for the decision of the Congress, which was crucial for the resilience of the defenders of Ukraine in the confrontation with the Russian occupiers.

“We want to thank the United States, the Congress, both parties, for the important decisions that have been made. This is really a very important support package. It will help strengthen our army on the battlefield,” he said.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy informed the participants of the meeting about the situation on the frontline. They discussed key areas of further military assistance to Ukraine, including strengthening its air defense with additional systems and missiles.

The parties also emphasized the importance of allowing Ukraine to use U.S. weapons against military targets in Russia in the border areas of the Kharkiv region.

The President also discussed with the congressmen the further increase of sanctions pressure on Russia. He emphasized the role of the Congress in shaping the legal framework for the use of frozen Russian sovereign assets for the urgent needs of Ukraine.
