Vallow and her husband, Chad Daybell, have both been charged with murder, conspiracy and theft after being accused of killing her children Joshua "JJ" Vallow, 7, and Tylee Ryan, 16, who mysteriously disappeared without a trace in September 2019.

  • The couple did not report the children missing and instead, traveled to Hawaii, where they were arrested in February 2020 after they refused to provide proof that the kids were alive.
  • Both of the minors' bodies were later discovered buried in Daybell's backyard in June 2020.

Vallow and Daybell allegedly killed both children as a part of a horrific cult ritual.

The 26-year-old son of Lori Vallow Daybell — the jailed Idaho mom accused of murdering her two other children — has been accused of committing sexual assault in Arizona, PEOPLE confirms.

Online jail records show Colby Ryan was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on Sunday.

Ryan is charged with two counts of domestic violent sexual assault. He has not entered pleas to the charges.

Ryan is Vallow's oldest son and her only living child.

In May 2021, Vallow and her husband, Chad Daybell, were indicted on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and first-degree murder after police recovered the bodies of her missing kids, Joshua (J.J.) Vallow and Tylee Ryan.

In April, not guilty pleas were entered on the 49-year-old mother's behalf. Daybell has also pleaded not guilty.

Vallow and Daybell, 54, will be tried jointly early next year, officials have stated.

KSAZ-TV in Phoenix obtained copies of the charging documents against Ryan.

The charges stem from an Aug. 31 incident at the alleged victim's home.

Ryan and the woman were watching television at her home. Eventually, according to police, the two started engaging in consensual sexual contact.

However, the alleged victim told police she decided to stop the intimate contact, and told Ryan to back off. The charging documents allege he did not do so, KSAZ-TV reports.

The alleged victim reported the incident on Sept. 2. She allegedly told Ryan he had sexually assaulted her, according to the charging documents.

"The Victim said the Defendant said he was sorry and started to cry," read the court documents, according to KSAZ-TV.

The next morning, police say, the alleged victim recorded a conversation she had with Ryan, during which he allegedly "agreed" that what happened the previous evening constituted sexual assault.

Niece of so-called "Doomsday Mom" Lori Vallow faces computer tampering charge in Mesa

MESA, Ariz.
- Melani Pawlowski -- the niece of Lori Vallow, the so-called "Doomsday Mom" accused of killing her two children, is facing her own criminal charge in Mesa Municipal Court.

Pawlowski, 33, is accused of computer tampering by Mesa Police. The victim in the case is her ex-husband, Brandon Boudreaux. Boudreaux was shot at in Gilbert in October 2019, and according to investigators, Boudreaux believed Pawlowski provided the shooter with his new address.

The Gilbert Police Department’s shooting investigation identified the suspect as the late Alex Cox, Pawlowski’s uncle and the brother of Lori Vallow. The shooting is part of a chain of events linked to the case of Vallow’s two children, 16-year-old Tylee Ryan and 7-year-old Joshua "JJ" Vallow, who went missing in Idaho after she moved them from Chandler to Rexburg, Idaho in the fall of 2019.

Chad Daybell: Maricopa County Attorney's Office refuses to prosecute Idaho man for attempted murder of Arizonan

Chad Daybell is at the center of a complex case involving the death of his first wife, as well as the deaths of his new wife's two children, in a case that has garnered national and global media attention. In 2021, Gilbert Police recommended attempted murder charges for Daybell and his new wife, Lori Vallow, in connection with the attempted murder of Vallow's niece's ex-husband. (March 2022 report)

Authorities found the siblings dead nine months later in the backyard of Chad Daybell, Vallow’s fifth husband. Prosecutors say the two justified the killings including the murder of Daybell’s first wife Tammy by relying on extreme religious beliefs.

In November 2021, Gilbert police recommended attempted murder charges to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office to be filed against Vallow and Daybell, who were believed to orchestrate the shooting. Prosecutors chose not to charge Daybell and Vallow’s case is still being reviewed. Charges for Pawlowski were not submitted to MCAO.

Vallow is also charged with conspiring to kill her fourth husband, Charles Vallow, who was fatally shot by Alex Cox in Chandler back in July 2019.

Pawlowski identity theft investigation

New details in Mesa PD’s identity theft investigation of Pawlowski reveals she used a copy of a $12,000 check deposited into Boudreaux’s business bank account to present as an exhibit during a family custody hearing. Boudreaux and Pawlowski went through a long court battle over their four children, after their 2019 divorce.

According to Mesa’s police report, Pawlowski agreed to take herself off the bank account for Boudreaux’s business known as Cougar Consulting. Bank records show Pawlowski accessed the Chase bank account several months after signing the divorce decree. Investigators say Pawlowski was supposed to remove herself from the account no more than 60 days after the sale of the former couple’s property on October 3, 2019. The account was accessed sometime after March 2, 2020.

Relative of Tylee Ryan and Joshua Vallow fears for his life

Brandon Boudreaux claims the mother of Tylee Ryan and Joshua Vallow heavily influenced his ex-wife through a religious group. So much so that she left Arizona for Idaho after an attempt on his life failed. (January 2020 report)

The investigation started in November 2021 and a detective with Mesa PD interviewed Pawlowski’s attorney Garrett Smith. According to the report, Smith admitted Pawlowski was indeed removed from the bank account when she logged into the online account only because the login information had not changed.

"Garrett told me it is not Melani’s fault that Brandon was ‘dumb’ and did not change the login information until three days after Melani accessed the online account," the detective recounted in the police report.

Smith told police that Pawlowski believed Boudreaux owed her money from the check and that is why she logged into the account to get a copy to her attorney.

The investigation concluded with the detective finding probable cause to charge Pawlowski with one count of computer tampering which is a class 3 felony.

"Melani Pawlowski knowingly accessed Brandon Boudreaux’s Chase bank business account for Cougar Consulting," reported the detective.

Her next hearing is set for September 26 and a sentence for a class 3 felony could result in probation and up to one year in jail or two to 8.75 years in prison.

Intense 911 call details arrest of Lori Vallow's niece amidst trespassing accusations

New details surrounding the family of Lori Vallow continue to emerge, months following the disappearance of two children with ties to Arizona.

Pawlowski has a criminal record in Utah. She was arrested for criminal trespassing with a domestic violence enhancement in November 2019 when police say she tried to get her children who were staying with Boudreaux’s parents in American Fork City in two separate incidents. The grandparents called 911 when Pawlowski would not leave the property.

Pawlowski was convicted and then sentenced in December of 2020 and put on probation according to court records.

The Suit-Shaming of 2025

The Suit Wars of 2025 are upon us.
  • Multiple dustups during the nascent months of President Donald Trump’s second term, involving the attire of Elon Musk and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, have resulted from men asserting superiority over one another by questioning each other’s suits, or lack thereof.
Elon Musk and Volodymyr Zelenskiyy are the latest to be targeted for under-dressing, one of President Donald Trump's long-held pet peeves.
So perhaps it’s no wonder that Trump has a history of targeting the under-dressed. In this administration, under-dressing might be an act of defiance.

In the Western world, some garments are meant to be seen only in the singular, to set their wearer apart from the rest of a crowd. An umpire’s uniform, for example. A wedding gown. A bishop’s miter, or a judge’s robe.
Suits, though, have historically done the opposite.
  • Where there’s one, there are more.
  • In cities, whole neighborhoods are defined by the besuited business people who bustle through them during the daytime hours.
The phrase “suits,” on its own, is sometimes used to invoke a phalanx of faceless and interchangeable corporate types, in their slacks and ties, endlessly entering and exiting elevators.

Suits, in other words, have long been a powerful visual symbol of belonging to a particular class. And although workplace trends and the coronavirus pandemic have made suits a slightly rarer sight in many American offices in recent years, their status as an in-group signifier has found a new flock of defenders: the Trump administration.

  • In late February, Trump welcomed Zelensky to the White House with a remark about his clothes right off the bat: “You’re all dressed up today. … He’s all dressed up today,” Trump said sarcastically, turning to photographers as he shook hands with Zelensky.
  • Zelensky has explained that he wears tactical, military-style dress to show solidarity with Ukrainian armed forces, and will do so until Ukraine’s war with Russia is over.

Later that day, reporter Brian Glenn – a staffer at the right-wing cable channel Real America’s Voice, as well as the boyfriend of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) – asked Zelensky during a meeting with Trump why he hadn’t worn a suit to the White House.

The meeting had already turned from calm to confrontational when Trump and Vice President JD Vance accused Zelensky of being insufficiently grateful for U.S. support in the war against Russia, and Zelensky urged them to understand that Russian President Vladimir Putin was untrustworthy in matters of diplomacy.

“Why don’t you wear a suit? You’re at the highest level in this country’s office, and you refuse to wear a suit. … Do you own a suit?” Glenn abruptly asked Zelensky.
“A lot of Americans have problems with you not respecting the dignity of this office.”
“I will wear costume after this war will finish,” Zelensky responded, though some have interpreted this as him using a Ukrainian word for “suit”: “kostyum.”
Then, looking at Glenn, he added,
  • “Maybe something like yours, yes.
  • Maybe something better.
  • I don’t know.
  • We will see.
  • Maybe something cheaper.”
Glenn’s pointed question drew attention to Zelensky’s distinctly less formal outfit just as the Trump team needed a way to demonstrate its authority.
  • Do you not know how to dress correctly?
  • Or are you just too poor?
  • And with his retort about his plans to wear a better and cheaper suit than Glenn’s, Zelensky made an unspoken assertion of his own:
Money can’t buy taste. (Like much of Zelensky’s military-style apparel over the past few years, his long-sleeve shirt that day featured the Ukrainian trident emblem and was made by the Ukrainian menswear label Damirli, whose designer, Elvira Gasanova, has also dressed Zelensky’s wife for her duties as first lady.)
Musk, too, has lately been a target of suit-related criticism.
  • Amid growing concern that the tech mogul is wielding an unprecedented and dangerous amount of power at the U.S. DOGE Service (he has been jeeringly labeled the “co-president”), Trump took a jab at his habit of showing up at the White House in T-shirts and baseball caps in a joint interview on Fox in February.

“He’s got some very brilliant young people working for him that dress much worse than him, actually,” Trump said of Musk’s work at DOGE.

“They dress in just T-shirts. You wouldn’t know they have a 180 IQ.”

Musk responded congenially, chuckling that he was merely “tech support.” But two weeks later (and shortly after the Zelensky debacle), Musk showed up to Trump’s March 4 address to Congress wearing a dark tailored suit with a crisp white shirt and blue tie.

That Saturday, Colin Jost joked on “Saturday Night Live,” “It’s a refreshing reminder that bullying still works.”

Trump has derided Musk’s sloppy style in the past: As Michael Wolff reported in his book “All or Nothing: How Trump Recaptured America,” Trump expressed bewilderment after Musk joined him onstage at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania wearing a MAGA hat and an untucked T-shirt that exposed his bare midriff.
“What the f— is wrong with this guy? And why doesn’t his shirt fit?”
And the president has also ridiculed other political opponents for their less-than-polished dress.
  • In 2022, he put the notoriously relaxed hoodie-and-shorts uniform of then-Lt. Gov. John Fetterman on blast at a rally in Pennsylvania, where Fetterman was running for Senate against longtime Trump ally Mehmet Oz.

“This guy is a disaster.

He comes in with a sweatsuit on – I’ve never seen him wear a suit!

A dirty, dirty, dirty sweatsuit.

It’s really disgusting,” Trump said, as he compared Fetterman’s dress to “a teenager getting high in his parents’ basement.”
