Putin still hopes to weaken Kiev’s support from its Western partners.
Before the meeting of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky with
the head of the White house Donald Trump, he again reminded of himself.
The U.S. President’s telephone conversation with the Russian Dictator took
place against the background of a discussion of possible supplies to
Ukraine of long-range American Tomahawk missiles (“Tomahawk”).
Western
analysts believe that this step speaks of Putin’s growing concern over
the failures of the Russian army at the front and the strengthening of
support for Kiev from the United States and Europe.
Why Putin called
Trump on October 16 and what the Western press writes about it,

One of the central topics of the negotiations in the White House is
the strengthening of air defense (air defense) and long-range
capabilities of Ukraine. As stated by Vladimir Zelenskiyy, even the
discussion of the transfer of long-range Tomahawk missiles to Kiev
caused panic attacks in the Kremlin.
Therefore, they hurried to once
again play the spectacle to assure Washington of its readiness for a
constructive dialogue.
Trump’s telephone conversation with Putin took
place at the initiative of the Russian side.
Moscow’s goal is clear: to
delay the peace process and disrupt the supply of military assistance to
Kiev.
In fact, as the Ukrainian leader stressed, Putin is no more
behaving than Hamas or any other terrorist.
“Russia expects to leave our part of Europe an island of dangers
and bullying people’s lives. It is important to prevent this. Russia
will be forced to stop the war when it can no longer continue. And
Russia’s real readiness for peace is not in words that Putin has never
had a deficit, but in a real end to the blows and murders, and that’s
what he has in trouble with. Therefore, every air defense system for
Ukraine is important for saving lives. Every decision that can
strengthen us brings us closer to the end of the war. Security can be
guaranteed if all that we negotiate, in particular, in Washington, is
implemented. Thank you to everyone who is with Ukraine!”
------- the President
of Ukraine wrote on Telegram.
Russian propagandists assure the Russians that “Tomahawks” will not
affect the course of the war. That only needs to strengthen the air
defense a little, and all these missiles will be shot down. In fact,
these systems allow us to launch accurate strikes against important
military and strategic objects of the enemy far beyond the front line.
And to shoot down a missile flying at a subsonic speed (about 900 km per
hour) is almost impossible. The Kremlin understands this very well.
That's why they panic.
During a press conference at the White House, Trump was asked
directly about whether Putin tried to convince not to sell the Tomahawks
to Ukraine.
“Well, what do you think he will say? “Please sell Tomahawks?
Please sell these “Tomagavkas”, I am very grateful to you?” I really
said, “Do you mind if I don’t give a couple of thousands of Tomahawks to
your opponents?” I told him that. That's what I said. He didn’t like
that idea,” the U.S. president said.
If we analyze the tactics of the Russian dictator during telephone
conversations with Trump, we will see a traditional picture: Putin moved
from rough pawnsty to blackmail. Trying to drag out the war again.
So, according to Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov, at first the Kremlin
leader congratulated Trump on the fact that he settled the conflict
between Israel and Gaza and brought peace to the Middle East. Then
heated and his admiration for the first lady, saying that she showed
incredible concern for Ukrainian children. At the same time, of course, I
forgot to mention that it was Russia that stole and illegally deter
minors. And after a portion of rough flattery, Putin switched to the
usual threats and blackmail: he said that the delivery of Tomagavk
missiles to Kiev would cause enormous damage to relations between Russia
and the United States.
However, the Times writes that such a strategy will no longer work. Trump has long understood who he was dealing with.
Donald Trump boasted for a long time with his warm relationship
with Putin, called him a “genius” and a “wise” statesman, and also
stated that their friendship would help him end the war. But in
mid-summer, Trump seems to have revealed some truths that have long been
known to other world leaders: it is not difficult for Putin to talk
about peace while killing Ukrainian civilians, and the military goals he
has stated practically do not leave a place for concessions.говорится в публикации Time.
In the United States, this call of Putin was perceived by many as the
recognition of his limited capabilities both on the battlefield and in
diplomacy.
At the front, the actions of the Russian army actually came
to a deadlock, and the losses continue to grow. In the country itself,
signs of an economic crisis are increasingly obvious: there is a
particularly acute shortage of fuel and a decline in industry. In
addition, sanctions pressure continues on the Russian economy. All this
leads to a rapid reduction in the reserves of the Russian budget. In
addition, there is a discontent in the entourage of Putin himself. Part
of the elite felt the consequences of the protracted war very well.
“There is one rule of Russian propaganda: if Putin doesn’t win,
he just disappears from sight. This is one of the reasons why the
Kremlin leader almost never visits the occupied territories of Ukraine.
Underestimating Putin is dangerous. But attributing to it the mythical
qualities, the West sees the head of the Kremlin as more powerful than
it really is. If the Americans soberly evaluated Putin, they would know
that it was a dictator who put everything on the failure of the
invasion, and Russia is a country with a rapidly cooling economy that is
losing spheres of influence. A realistic view of his power would
deprive Putin of the main lever of influence: a sense of its own
invincibility.пишет журнал The Atlantic.
Most influential Western media write that Russia now does not seem
strong enough to dictate the terms at the negotiating table. The
country’s military and economic resource is depleted. Right now, the
West has the opportunity to speak with Moscow from a position of
strength. After all, all the arguments, including the supply of
long-range systems, are available for this.
“Trump often complained that ending the Russian-Ukrainian war was
much more difficult than he initially believed. But now that the
administration is full of hope after success in the Middle East, the
situation may change. It should be borne in mind that the war is not
going according to the plan for Russia, whose economy is in decline, and
at the same time Moscow continues to lose thousands of lives without
visible results, ” -------- thepublication Politicosays.
Putin is aware of how rapidly the attitude of the West to him and
Russia as a whole is changing.
The consolidation of the United States
and Europe destroys Moscow’s hopes for a split among allies and
weakening aid to Kiev.
A vivid example of this, the 31-th meeting in the
format of “Ramstein”.
Its main result cannot be measured only by money
and additional packages of military assistance to Ukraine.
The meeting
in Brussels showed that after the cooling phase of relations between the
United States and Europe again act smoothly.
“If this war does not end, if the path to peace is not found in
the short term, the United States, together with our allies, will take
the necessary steps to force Russia to pay for ongoing aggression. If we
have to take this step, the U.S. Department of War is ready to do as
the United States can do. We remain firmly convinced that the most
effective means of deterring Russian aggression are, firstly, the
deadly, combat-ready and Europe-led NATO and, secondly, combat-ready,
reliable Ukrainian armed forces. They are successfully defending
themselves and thereby continue to deter Russian aggression along NATO
borders,” ---- Pentagon chief Pete Hegsett said.
Many international experts believe that Trump’s leadership in
reaching a truce between Israel and Hamas has been a key factor in its
quest to intensify negotiations on ending the Russian-Ukrainian war. The
U.S. president knows the weaknesses of Putin’s Russia (it is not for
nothing that he called it a “paper tiger”) and now is the best time for
him to force the Kremlin dictator to negotiate a real world. Some
publications suggest that Donald Trump could become a real candidate for
the Nobel Prize next year.
“Next year, the Nobel Prize is celebrating 125 years, and Trump
may well have rights to it. If the US president can continue to
influence Moscow, as well as form the contours of the deal to end the
war, then the settlement will be possible even before the Nobel
Committee elects the winners of the prize for 2026.пишет CNN.
The Kremlin is trying to adhere to proven tactics: it delays time and
tries to convince the world of Moscow’s readiness for negotiations.
Putin still hopes to weaken the determination of Kiev’s partners. That
is why their main task now is not to succumb to manipulation and
continue supporting Ukraine.
Now on the territory of Ukraine, there is a struggle for the freedom of the entire civilization, which gave us a reason to call the state channel for foreign audiences the most understandable and simple word for billions of people – FREEDOM. Ukraine is an example of the struggle for the values of freedom – our TV channel in Russian is called upon to explain this. The word “freedom” in different languages is now synonymous with the heroic struggle of millions of citizens of both Ukraine and allied countries for democracy, human rights, the rule of law, the principles of equality against authoritarianism, dictatorship, and the usurpation of power. The name of the channel FREEDOM is a reflection of Ukrainian leadership in protecting civilization from the barbarism of Putin or other totalitarian regimes. It is we who have the honor to represent today the voice of a free, independent, democratic Ukraine abroad, and our name is not just a name, it is the essence of our ideological position, which will win!
