The situation in Pokrovsk, Donetsk region, due to the onslaught of Russian occupiers, remains difficult. Russia has been smashing its forehead on the wall of protection of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the region for more than a year and cannot take the city. If the aggressor manages to capture Pokrovsk, he will not stop. This only encourages it to move on. This opinion was voiced on the FREEDOM TV channel today, November 15, by the head of the military programs of the Center for Global Studies “Strategy XXI” Pavel Lakikychuk.
Propagans in Russia continue to talk about the “environment” of Ukrainian forces. And the thing is that Putin relays the words that the chief of the general staff of the Russian army, General Gerasimov, conveys to him, the expert believes.
“Gerasimov once again stated that Pokrovsk and Kupyansk are “encircled”, and there is a “equipment of surrounded Ukrainian units” in these cities. Lies? Yes, a lie. But Putin likes it and he is interested in it,” said Lakyichuk.
On the one hand, the dictator further operates with these “facts”, and Gerasimov on the twine: either he will fulfill the advances announced to Putin, or lose his office.
“That is why Pokrovsk, Mirnograd, Kupyansk turn from military targets into military-political ones,” the expert added.
But the military importance of the Pokrovsky-Mirnograd agglomeration, despite the fact that after the breakthrough of the Russians on the Pokrovsky-Konstantinovka highway, as a logistics hub, has lost its significance, continues, Lakikychuk believes.
“This is the flank of the entire Konstantinov-Druzhkov group of Ukrainian forces, to Kramatorsk inclusive. If the Russians can capture Pokrovsk, they will not stop there. And it is obvious that the false start that we saw, made by the 51-th army with its “tail” to the north (in the area of Dobropollya, ed.), this is just the direction of further design and course of events. To overwhelm our entire front line in the north-west of Donbass is their goal, ”the expert said.
This idea of the enemy is achievable under two conditions, Lakyichuk believes. First, if Pokrovsk and Minograd fall. Secondly, this process should not take away all the available reserves and resources that they have planned.
“The situation is hard, of course. From the south, the second army continues to seep into Pokrovsk. At the same time, Pokrovsk is a rear for Mirnograd, which is more stable. But it is this stability that is provided by the logistics of the rear. If the failure fails our forces in Pokrovsk, then we lose our defense automatically. For the sake of this, the Defense Forces of Ukraine are focused on the displacement of Russians from the northern part of Pokrovsk, from the industrial zone, to create such a more or less stable corridor,” the guest of the broadcast said.
At the same time, the enemy 51-I army is trying to cover Pokrovsk, Mirnograd from the north.
“Depending on the success of the Ukrainian forces in this direction, it will be possible to talk about the further course of events. Our brigades and corps are such an operational reserve that can cut the northern protrusion of the Russians. Then the situation in the Pokrovsky direction may change, if not radically, then fundamentally. In which direction the pendulum will swing now, it is difficult to say, ”the military expert noted.
The increased close attention of the commander-in-chief of the APU Syrsky to this site is justified, Lakikchuk believes. And, in fact, all resources, reserves are concentrated both from the Ukrainian side and from the enemy in this area. Because this, according to the expert, will depend on the success of the entire autumn-winter campaign.
“At the same time, the Russians also understand this, they are trying to stretch the Ukrainian forces, not to allow us to focus resources on the direction of the main strikes. Therefore, we see that the difficult situation in the Zaporizhzhia direction, in the area of Gulyaipol, as well as near Kupyansk, in the Kharkiv region,” the speaker concluded.

Earlier it was reported that the enemy does not leave attempts to break through to the residential development of Pokrovsk, apartment buildings and gain a foothold there to expand the control zone. Given this, the Ukrainian military command has developed a set of measures to counter the plans of the enemy.
