Obit Omit: What the Media Leaves Out of John McCain’s Record of Militari...

Empathy and admiration for sure, but let's keep a perspective on what is left out in a phenomenon named OBIT OMIT
Here in Arizona The Keating 5 S&L Crisis is one in this fair-and-balanced report from a perhaps left-leaning progressive media source

https://democracynow.org - We host a roundtable discussion on the life and legacy of John McCain, the Vietnam veteran and former prisoner of war, six-term senator and two-time presidential candidate, who died Saturday at the age of 81 of brain cancer. We speak with Mehdi Hasan, columnist for The Intercept and host of their “Deconstructed” podcast. He’s also host of “UpFront” at Al Jazeera English. He’s been tweeting in response to McCain’s death and wrote a piece last year headlined “Despite What the Press Says, 'Maverick' McCain Has a Long and Distinguished Record of Horribleness.” We are also joined by Medea Benjamin, co-founder of CodePink, which McCain once referred to as “low-life scum,” and by Norman Solomon, national coordinator of RootsAction, executive director of the Institute for Public Accuracy and author of “War Made Easy: How Presidents and Pundits Keep Spinning Us to Death.”

Looking Way Mo' Ahead: Life After Google, The Fall of Big Data + The Rise of BlockChain Technology

Just getting outside-of-the-bubble here in Mesa, the most conservative city in America, for a short time to catch up on recently published books via Book TV. The program just in case you don't know is produced on C-SPAN2.   It's a comfort to know there are good things happening out there in the universe outside of The Old-Donut Hole. Your MesaZona blogger is prone to worry way-too-much about the future while watching the good ole-boys' political machine wobble along after too many bad urban-planning wrecks and demolition derbies that have left damage in our downtown neighborhoods after generations. We have along way to go to get ahead Re/Generating, but let's look ahead > Time-Out

One More Day To-Go-Vote Here in District 4

In a fast-growing city of over 475,000 people it's a good time to exercise your right2vote.
Don't know about anyone else, but expectations are high here, not necessarily for 'great' leadership but better than before. Voters will make the final choice in this contested race where the incumbent Chris Glover succeeded by default with no opposition in either of his two terms while serving time in-office. Things are different today - VOTERS GET TO MAKE A CHOICE - there are three.
The Primary Election that ends tomorrow will narrow down the choices to two candidates who will be in a contest to get your votes of confidence to gain a seat on the Mesa City Council in the November 8 General Election . . .

Here are some images taken out of context for each candidate with some brief quirky unsolicitated comments:

Jake Brown - he's your guy if you want more of the same Friends-and-Family stuff on the Mesa City Council

Jen Duff - anyone who can invent a fishing lure here in the Arizona desert is a wonder. If you want more diversity in government, as the only woman in the race she's the choice

Robert Scantlebury - here's your guy if Public Safety is your top issue. Here's a retired police officer.
If there's a precedent, retired Fire Captain Mark Freeman got elected to the Mesa City Council, endorsed by Russell Pearce

Here's Reveal: A Multi-Platform Center for Investigative Reporting

Here's the brave new world for Investigative Reporting - a newspaper is one thing but when you have a multi-platform that's what works well for Reveal News.
Here's what they do:

We engage and empower the public through investigative journalism and groundbreaking storytelling that sparks action, improves lives and protects our democracy.
Founded in 1977 as the nation’s first nonprofit investigative journalism organization, The Center for Investigative Reporting has developed a reputation for being among the most innovative, credible and relevant media organizations in the country.
Blogger Note: Here in Mesa, Arizona it's hard to engage and empower the public. Lordy knows yours truly has tried!
Time and time again there are just a few sparks for action to open up the generations-old entrenched local government controlled by an expansive network of closely-connected friends-and-family in finance, insurance, real estate, development, underwriting and politics: F.I.R.E.D.U.P.
Crossing the line is the intersection of religion and finance when a religion incorporates for-profit enterprises >

Self-directed neuroplasticity refers to our ability to change the "wiring" in our brains. In the past, it was thought that the brain would remain in its initial state. Research shows that the brain can change itself. This is important for people suffering from injuries that have damaged the brain, and for people with OCD. Dr Jeffrey M. Schwartz argues that the "human mind is an independent entity that can shape and control the functioning of the physical brain."

In war, the 'high ground' refers to the most strategic position available on a battlefield, and its occupation and exploitation gives the force occupying it major military advantages. With the dawn of the space age, it quickly became clear that the space around earth was the ultimate high ground, and whoever conquered it first would put all other militaries at a severe disadvantage. So why hasn't it happened yet? That’s what we’ll find out today, in this episode of The Infographics Show- why we can't put weapons on space stations.
