How religious is your state?
[and for that matter, how religious is the City of Mesa??]

" Mormons are the most heavily Republican-leaning religious group in the U.S., . . . Seven-in-ten U.S. Mormons identify with the Republican Party or say they lean toward the GOP, compared with 19% who identify as or lean Democratic – a difference of 51 percentage points. That’s the biggest gap in favor of the GOP out of 30 religious groups we analyzed, which include Protestant denominations, other religious groups and three categories of people who are religiously unaffiliated . . . "
Why - suddenly "out-of-the-blue" or red-state politics - is this information and the numbers coming out one day in advance of Super Tuesday [tomorrow] when all the mainstream media jive talk has concentrated on Evangelicals?

Mormons are at the top of this list to the right

Even with that 70% loyalty, the Mormon majority Republican/lean Rep. did not propel Mitt Romney into national office where LDS members are a small percentage of the overall population. He did take the State of Arizona where Mormons represent 5% of adult residents.

This minority-majority group has dominated and controlled education, real estate, City Hall, and politics for much of this city's 138-year history, bringing religious values into government.
LDS represent more than 60% of the Mesa City Council, many having held positions as bishops or presidents of wards and stakes in the Mormon Church.
