Mesa City District 3 Initiative Building Strong Neighborhoods

Newest Building Strong Neighborhoods Initiative District 3
Post Date: 10/11/2016 9:32 AM      The City of Mesa’s next Building Strong Neighborhoods Initiative will be held in Council District 3 in the neighborhood located from University Drive to Rio Salado Parkway and from Dobson Road to Longmore. The program will begin with an orientation or “kickoff” meeting Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at Whittier Elementary School, 733 N. Longmore. Vice Mayor and District 3 Councilmember Dennis Kavanaugh is scheduled to speak.

“One of the most important things we can do as a city is to make sure our neighbors are involved in their communities. It helps build pride in an area and makes people want to help it improve. The Building Strong Neighborhoods Initiative is a fantastic way to help our residents really connect with their city and meet the people who work for Mesa that they can share ideas with,” Vice Mayor Kavanaugh said.
During the orientation meeting, residents will receive neighborhood survey results, meet neighbors, learn about helpful City services and will be encouraged to get more involved in the neighborhood. Residents attending the meeting will have the opportunity to meet staff from various City departments such as Animal Control; Transportation; Code Compliance and Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities. Several nonprofit organizations will also have displays and information including A New Leaf, Goodwill, First Things First and Child Crisis Arizona.

“This is an opportunity to work in a neighborhood whose residents are very interested in a program that will provide them many City resources and services. I look forward to working closely with them,” Mesa Neighborhood Outreach Coordinator Cynthia Ezcurra said.

The neighborhood will receive Clean Sweep dumpsters and residents will be invited to participate in Action Teams.

The City of Mesa Building Strong Neighborhoods Initiative was introduced in the fall of 2006 to provide education and resources to neighborhoods throughout the City.
