Kari Lake shrugs off blizzard, VP talk

The Arizona Senate candidate and Trump surrogate said she is "not focused" on vice presidential speculation.

Kari Lake's campaign event Friday night was canceled due to the blizzard, but she’s found other ways to make herself useful.. .Lake, a native of Eastern Iowa, shrugged off the impact the winter weather might have on Monday's caucus and said the situation has been overblown by the media.
But she has been warning against Trump supporters staying home or getting complacent with his lead in the polls.
  • "It all starts in Iowa," said Lake.
  • "We can't look at the polls and say, 'Oh, wow, he's so far ahead, maybe I can stay in and watch TV tonight, stay in because it's cold out.'
  • We can't have that happen. ... We've got to act like he's down, and go out and vote like our lives depend on it.”
Lake also responded to speculation she is on the shortlist for Trump's potential running mate.
  • "It's very interesting, I don't think that same question of you know, who the VP is, is asked of Haley and DeSantis,” she said.
  • “So I think it's great because it tells me that even the media understands that DeSantis and Haley don't have a snowball's chance in Phoenix of winning this thing.”
Lake added, "I'm not really worried about who he picks, I'm not focused on that. … He'll pick a great VP. Whoever he picks, I'm going to show up, I will crawl over broken glass to vote for them. And I want to help him in the Senate, and that's what I plan to do."

Trump touched down just before a new poll showed him with a commanding lead.

Donald Trump landed here Saturday night in a relaxed mood, just before a new Iowa poll showed him with a commanding lead heading into the caucuses. . .
His team set up a livestream hosted by Iowa's attorney general, Brenna Bird, at his hotel with a crowd of supporters. The event gave Trump the chance to respond to friendly questions in front of a controlled and friendly audience. Trump touched on his 2024 rivals, his dominance in the polls, his legal cases, electric vehicles and President Joe Biden's record, particularly the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.
After making the trek from his plane to his car, he said “wow, that wind is blowing” and acknowledged he does worry about turnout. But he said, “At the same time I'm watching even the newscasts today. They're saying the Trump voter has so much more spirit, dedication. They say they walk over glass.”
The final Des Moines Register/NBC News/Mediacom poll, released Saturday, found nearly half of likely caucusgoers said they would vote for Trump, far ahead of the rest of the field.
In a prepared statement, Trump said, Our grassroots supporters have put us in position to win, and now we have to show up to Caucus for President Trump on Monday and get the job done. We have to show up.”
