Russia remains defiant over Trump threats

Four powerful Russian glide bombs hit a prison in Ukraine’s southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, authorities said, according to AP.

They killed at least 17 inmates and wounded more than 80 others, officials said.

In the Dnipro region of central Ukraine, authorities said Russian missiles partially destroyed a three-story building and damaged

nearby medical facilities, including a maternity hospital and a city hospital ward. Officials said at least four people were killed,

including a 23-year-old pregnant woman, and eight were injured.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that across the country, 22 people were killed in Russian strikes on 73 cities, towns

and villages. “These were conscious, deliberate strikes, not accidental,” Zelenskyy said on Telegram.

Zelenskyy welcomed Trump’s move on the timeline.

“Everyone needs peace — Ukraine, Europe, the United States and responsible leaders across the globe,” Zelenskyy wrote in a post on Telegram.

“Everyone except Russia.”

The Kremlin pushed back, with a top Putin lieutenant warning Trump against “playing the ultimatum game with Russia.”

“Russia isn’t Israel or even Iran,” former president Dmitry Medvedev, who is deputy head of the country’s Security Council, wrote on social platform X.

Each new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war. Not between Russia and Ukraine, but with his own country,” Medvedev said.

Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of its neighbour, the Kremlin has warned Kyiv’s Western backers that their involvement could end up

broadening the war to NATO countries.

Kremlin responds to Trump’s Ukraine Deadline Change

Kremlin takes note of Trump’s statement about shortened deadline for agreement on Ukraine

Dmitry Peskov added that he "would like to avoid commenting on" the U.S.leader’s remark

MOSCOW, July 29. /TASS/. The Kremlin is aware of US President Donald Trump’s statement about shortening his deadline for resolving the conflict in Ukraine and not being interested in communication at the highest level, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in a briefing.

"We have taken note of the statement that President Trump made yesterday," he said in response to a question, adding that he "would like to avoid commenting on" the US leader’s remark.

Earlier, Trump announced a 50-day deadline for agreements between Russia and Ukraine, and threatened to impose 100% tariffs on Moscow and its trading partners if no deal was reached.

  • However, the US president said on Monday that he was very disappointed with Russia and progress in settlement efforts, which was why he was reducing the deadline to 10 to 12 days.
  • In addition, Trump said that he was no longer interested in talking to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
  • However, he did not explain what kind of communication he was referring to.

Moscow has taken the US president’s threats into account, spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said, adding that Russia remains committed to peace

Russia has taken note of US President Donald Trump’s decision to shorten the deadline for a peace deal in Ukraine and to issue new threats, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said.
  • On Monday, Trump cut his previous 50-day deadline for a Ukraine peace deal to just 10-12 days, warning that Moscow could face sweeping sanctions if no agreement is reached.
  • He has threatened 100% tariffs on Russia’s trading partners and said he no longer wishes to speak with President Vladimir Putin “just to talk.”
“We have taken into account President Trump’s statement yesterday,”
Peskov told reporters on Tuesday, while refraining from making any “judgments” about the remarks.

Peskov noted that while Russia’s military operation will continue, Moscow remains “committed to the peace process to resolve the conflict around Ukraine and to ensure our interests in the course of this settlement.”
Regarding the possibility of a meeting between Trump and Putin, which has been widely anticipated in the media in recent months, Peskov reiterated that the issue has not been raised in practical terms and is still not on the agenda.

“So far, the normalization process is proceeding sluggishly.

We would like to see more momentum,” he said, adding that in order to “move forward, impulses are needed from both sides.”

  • Since entering office this year, Trump has said he respects both Russia and Putin and wants to find a quick diplomatic solution to the Ukraine crisis.
  • In recent weeks, however, he has increasingly expressed disappointment over the lack of progress in the peace process and has resorted to sanctions threats against Moscow.
Russian officials have rejected ultimatums from Washington, warning that these threats only serve to prolong the war.
