Amazon Sells Out of '1984' as America Decides to Read a Goddamn Book for Once

George Orwell’s dystopian classic 1984 occupied the number one spot on Amazon’s best-selling books list yesterday, where it remains today. A cautionary tale about a brutal, amoral dictator has evidently felt relevant to people lately. But as of today, Amazon—the world’s largest bookseller—is unable to keep up with demand.
Currently 1984 is printed by Signet Classics, and both the hardcover and softcover versions are listed as “
temporarily out of stock.” As CNN reported yesterday, Penguin (the parent company of the New American Library, Signet’s parent company) is racing to print more copies of Orwell’s novel. Under the Trump administration, quotes like, “The object of torture is torture” and, “If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face—for ever” must be resonating with people. Go figure.

Speculation About Mesa???

Foxconn may team with Apple to build $7 billion manufacturing facility in U.S.

Foxconn Technology Group is considering building a display-panel manufacturing facility in the United States in a joint venture with Apple Inc. that could create up to 50,000 jobs, the company’s chairman said Sunday.
Terry Gou, Taiwan-based Foxconn’s chairman and CEO, said the facility could cost $7 billion and create between 30,000 and 50,000 new jobs, according to a report by the Nikkei Asian Review, and could include the production of TV screens in addition to smartphone displays.
Gou noted that the U.S. has no TV-display factories, even though it is the world’s second-largest TV market. “Apple is willing to invest in the facility together because they need the (panels) as well,” Gou told Nikkei.
Foxconn 2354, +0.80%   is the world’s biggest contract maker of electronics, and makes most of Apple’s AAPL, +0.01%   iPhones at its Chinese factories.
Gou said the company, also known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co.* ,  had been considering building a new U.S. facility for years but the issue was recently revisited during a conversation between Gou and Softbank Group Co. 9984, +0.23%   founder and CEO Masayoshi Son.
In December, Son met with then-President-elect Donald Trump and pledged to invest $50 billion in the U.S. The day after that meeting, Foxconn said it was planning to expand its U.S. operations, but offered no details.
Nikkei also reported Sunday that Foxconn is planning to open a new molding plant in Pennsylvania, where it already operates a facility.
In a separate report, Nikkei said Foxconn-controlled Smart Technologies may move its interactive-display production from Canada to the U.S. if President Trump succeeds in his goal of renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement.

*Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd., trading as Foxconn Technology Group, is a Taiwanese multinational electronics contract manufacturing company headquartered in New Taipei City, Taiwan
Revenue: 132.5 billion USD (2014)

A Lavender Conference, A Hotel + A Back-Story: Visit Mesa Marketing/Agritourism

Your MesaZona blogger was "on a mission" today and it somehow turned into a surprising direction right on Center Street to the visitor information office, talking to Rachel Semik, Projects Assistant at Visit Mesa
How did that happen?
A few weeks ago, as is often the case, a post was done to highlight a conference scheduled for January - The U.S. Lavender Growers Association to be held here in Mesa ... but Why?
The conference kicked-off with a welcome reception on Thursday evening, and offers pre-conference workshops starting Thursday morning and offers education and collaboration opportunities for lavender growers and will be expanding this year to offer a separate track for those who want to expand their knowledge of the use of lavender. This year's artisan track focuses on culinary use of lavender.
Mesa  is an area steeped in farming culture, with a focus on farm to table cuisine, innovative farming technology, and the agritourist.

Rachel Semik
The answer became apparent today after some exchanges on social media and a quick telephone-talk with Kara Wasserbach [see note blogger's note below], who's organizing the logistics and conference details for USLGA responding to my questions emphasizing how that organization made the decision to schedule the conference here.
It was my pleasure to get off-track and take a jaunt for a couple of blocks to 20 N Center Street to "nose-around" the visitor information offices where the cheery and enthusiastic voice of Rachel greeted me.
Kera had point-blank told me that the marketing and sales people at Visit Mesa had convinced the group to have their conference here. That's a success story for sure.
Rachel and the staff began their efforts eight months ago when the lavender group was invited to come here to see what Mesa has to offer for on-site visits to Schepf Farms, Agritopia and Queen Creek Olive Oil Mill that are all featured in one of the twelve promotion areas for the boundless outdoors attractions here:

FARM RICH COUNTRY, Mesa's bountiful harvest is proudly shared with visitors.
