A new company plans to set up shop later this year at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. Constant Aviation will join a growing cluster of facilities known as “MRO”s.
MRO stands for maintenance, repair and overhaul. It’s the equivalent of a car dealer’s service department.
“For everything from engine repairs and avionics and interior refurbishments and parts replacements and so forth,” explained Bill Jabjiniak, economic development director for the city of Mesa.
Blogger Note:  from another earlier post on 25 May

He said Constant Aviation will become the fourth MRO at Gateway Airport when it moves into its nearly 75,000 square foot space.
The company is expected to hire about 200 people.
“Average salary will be about $60,000,” Jabjiniak said. “They’re very skilled positions: aircraft maintenance technicians, avionics technicians, managers and inspectors and there’ll be others that come out as well.”
The Aeronautical Repair Station Association examines states based on the aviation maintenance industry.
It ranks Arizona third for economic activity at more than $4 billion a year.

Constant Aviation is based in Cleveland and has similar facilities in Las Vegas and Orlando. In a press release Stephen Maiden, president and CEO, said, “Our goal is to have the Mesa location operational in the third quarter of 2017.”

Arizona Permanent Land Endowment Trust Fund Growing To $5.57 Billion

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 25, 2017                                                       ARIZONA ENDOWMENT INVESTMENTS MANAGED BY STATE TREASURER’S OFFICE SETS NEW ALL-TIME RECORD OF $5.57 BILLION
PHOENIX – The Permanent Land Endowment Trust Fund, also referred to the Schools’ Endowment, reached another new milestone under State Treasurer Jeff DeWit growing to $5.57 billion at the end of April 2017.
“The hard work and incredible staff at the State Treasurer’s Office continues to produce great investment results,” Treasurer Jeff DeWit said. “After beating most university endowments in 2016, the winning streak continues for our schools’ Endowment.”

ENDOWMENT ASSET ALLOCATION
As of December 31, 2016
Last year, the fund’s return beat many of the large public investment funds in the United States including CalPERS, CalSTERS, Dartmouth, MIT, Stanford and Harvard.
The State Treasurer’s Office manages the investment activities.

“Managing the investments internally, right here in the Arizona Treasurer’s Office, has been a huge win for our schools as it allows them to earn more and keep more of their money,” DeWit said.

“These record earnings are on top of the fact the Endowment has paid out nearly $225 million to schools this fiscal year, more than any year in Arizona’s history with two months to go.”
The $5.57 billion Endowment returned 10.06% in the first 10 months of this fiscal year that started July 1, 2016.
“This return has outperformed our benchmark, demonstrating that our strategy to be conservative in our bond investments is paying off,” DeWit said.

“Rather than reach for yield in our bonds by investing long, we have kept our bond investments shorter than the benchmark to protect them from a rise in interest rates.”
As a statewide constitutional officer, Treasurer DeWit serves as the state’s Banker and Investment Official for the State of Arizona, charged with the prudent custody and management of taxpayer monies and oversight of nearly $15 billion in assets under management.

In Memoriam: JFK

May 29, 2017 |
John F. Kennedy would have turned 100 today and we can only imagine how he would feel about the current president.

There might be a few clues in the following excerpts, which display Kennedy’s wit, perception, and originality.
Today is the 100th birthday of John F. Kennedy. The young president was struck down less than three years from his inauguration. So we don’t know what he might have accomplished over the course of a likely two terms.
But we do know a lot about him. One thing we know is that he was unusually witty and had a wonderful sense of humor. Today, with the US presided over by a man with a radically different relationship to the English language, Kennedy’s pronouncements carry special poignancy. Here we share some of his more resonant utterances.
These few excerpts display Kennedy’s wit, perception, and originality, and tell us something about the world at the time. The world was very different then — and very much the same.
