This is Sedrious/Very Serious: DANGEROUSLY UNHEALTHY :WARNING: HIGH POLLUTION ADVISORY

The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) is issuing an ozone High Pollution Advisory (HPA) for Maricopa County, effective Wednesday, June 14, 2017. This HPA is due to ozone levels expected to accumulate enough to exceed the federal health standard for ozone.
People most affected by ozone include children, senior citizens, people who work or exercise outdoors and people with pre-existing respiratory disease.
Ozone can irritate the respiratory system, aggravate asthma and reduce the immune system’s ability to fight off respiratory infections. Ozone-related health problems include shortness of breath, coughing, wheezing, headaches, nausea, and throat and lung irritation.
Employers and Travel Reduction Program Transportation Coordinators are advised to activate their HPA Plans immediately. ADEQ further recommends that the general public limit outdoor activity while the HPA is in effect, especially children and adults with respiratory problems.

Phoenix MSA #4 in 2017 Top Housing Markets

A short posting online yesterday caught your MesaZona blogger's attention
South, Southwest sweep list of 50 largest new-home markets
Mary Tyler March @mtmarch

Three other Texas markets made the list's top 10 in 2017:
  • Houston/The Woodlands/Sugar Land (No. 2)
  • Austin/Round Rock (No. 5)
  • San Antonio/New Braunfels (No. 9)
The Top 10 also included the following states - overall, the South and Southwest dominated the list, with

Atlanta/Sandy Springs/Roswell, GA
Phoenix/Mesa/Scottsdale, AZ
The Greater Washington, DC, metro area
Orlando/Kissimmee/Sanford, FL
Charlotte/Concord/Gastonia, NC. Rounding out the list . . .

Mary Taylor March also features in her article a resource website that has a deeper analysis of the U.S. housing market:
Industry Dive
Across the U.S., the construction industry is anything but uniform. In this series, the Construction Dive team sheds light on these differences — speaking with industry leaders from each state to discuss the business conditions impacting their market.
According to CityLab’s analysis, Dallas and Fort Worth are making strides toward improving housing availability, too.
Atlanta is also gearing up for a population shift as the metro area expects to more than double its headcount by 2040.
The city council in May voted to allow tiny houses and other accessory dwelling units with an amendment that updated a size-restrictive zoning ordinance to allow homes less than 750 square feet to be built in certain areas of the city.
The move seeks to make smaller and typically more affordable housing options available in some of the metro's most popular areas.
Meanwhile, a recent comparison study by CityLab found that Phoenix was best-equipped to handle its current demand based on the volume of new, unoccupied residential inventory there. The report examined population increases in the 10 fastest-growing U.S. cities against the number of people the new housing stock could accommodate.
Arizona’s capital city is undergoing a revitalization of its downtown as tech-driven development spurs new demand for urban living in the area.

Jane Jacobs: Parting Words captures urban thinker, writer, and activist Jane Jacobs (1916-2006) in her final public appearance in Portland, Oregon. On tour to promote her book, DARK AGE AHEAD (2004), Jacobs discusses the imperative for culturally diverse and innovative cities, among numerous other issues. Exploring passages from her seminal work, THE DEATH AND LIFE OF GREAT AMERICAN CITIES (1961) and looking at Jacobs through the eyes of leading Oregon planners, the film highlights Jacobs' clear-eyed perspectives on the problems and opportunities facing American cities. Parting Words demonstrates Jane Jacobs' long and abiding influence on urban design and planning.

Written and Narrated by Chet Orloff, Director, Pamplin Institute & Collection; PSU Adj. Prof. Urban Studies and Planning; President, Oregon History Works/Museum of the City; Director Emeritus, Oregon Historical Society.
