Ryan Randazzo Says Arizona Is A Hot Market For Cannabis

Now that's some unexpected good news from Arizona Republic reporter Ryan Randazzo published online today at 06:00 am. Better late than never, as they say - and once again using that catch phrase "business-friendly environment" to account for the emerging high-growth potential cannabis phenomenon that driving million$ in investment$ in a budding industry referred to in the old days as "Reefer Madness".
It's taken a long time for sure but now 11 states and the District of Columbia [and Canada and Mexico] are all in-the-pipeline of approving its recreational use throughout North America.
Yes the times they are changing for a industry that's been operating in different markets all over the world for centuries.
Reporter Rick Randazzo concentrates on what he calls "consolidation in the industry" - it's way more than that as reported on this blog many times.
Let's let Ryan Randazzo have his say:
Arizona 'very much on the map' as marijuana companies expand, consolidate
"With a booming medical-marijuana program and business-friendly regulations for dispensaries and farms, Arizona is a can't-miss market for large cannabis companies that are growing across the 33 states with legalized medical or recreational use. . .
Nationwide sales of medical and recreational marijuana in state-regulated markets are projected to be $8 billion to $10 billion this year, and near $22 billion in 2022, according to industry publication Marijuana Business Daily.
Why Randazzo chooses to highlight Sara Gullickson, CEO of Item 9 Labs Corp., a publicly traded cannabis company headquartered in Scottsdale to insert a video is questionable especially when she brags that “But not a lot of people can grow like we can here.”

Happy To See Arizona Mainstream Media Getting Traction For Investigative Reporting

This new year 2019 might be a watershed-moment for local state reporters who somehow get their hands on shocking surveillance videos.
They don't necessarily get the attention from the usual local residents sleep-walking through the mainstream media fog-outs and cover-ups.
Fortunately this will change this year.
Arizona is ripe for a stream of scandals. In fact, they might be overdue. . . Here's just a few some more fearless

KJZZ Spotlights A Sensitive Subject > It's Just A Start

Barely scratching the surface and hard-to-believe what the Mesa Public Schools assistant superintendent of human resources Shaun Holmes has to say in this report:
How The Mesa Public Schools District Re-Hires Retiring Teachers
Published: Tuesday, January 1, 2019 - 5:41pm
Updated: Tuesday, January 1, 2019 - 5:42pm
. . .  "increased pressure on the state retirement system."
_________________________________________________________________________
There's more to the story about the Mesa Public Schools System than that without even a single notation of the forced retirement of former Superintendent Michael Cowan for questionable finances and close-crony-patronage jobs. Or the hiring a new Superintendent from a small-sized city in Utah to be in-charge of the largest school district in the state.
KJZZ reporter Mariana Dale rightly digs into just one area with an ostensibly lame excuse from Shaun Holmes who glibly justifies using a private employment contractor that "saves money" to re-hire retired teachers.

AZ Big Media Spotlights GPEC + CEO Chris Camacho

High on praising the Greater Phoenix Economic Council first:
More companies moving in to capitalize on Arizona’s business-friendly environmentImage result for greater phoenix economic council
Business News | 1 hour ago |
". . . Experts say Metro Phoenix is fast-paced and possesses an unapologetic willingness to get things done, making it one of the top cities to do business. The region has a pioneering spirit and welcoming attitude – toward people and business — and that spirit is becoming contagious in the business world. “Arizona is one of the fastest growing places to cultivate a company for multiple reasons,” says Brett Johnson, a partner at Snell & Wilmer who represents businesses and individuals in government relations matters.
________________________________________________________________________
Here are the top three qualities that are attracting businesses to Metro Phoenix, according to Johnson:
•  1. Arizona prides itself on hard work, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Although still a competitive environment, there is a collective desire for everyone to succeed.
•  2. The friendly regulatory environment and cooperative government agencies make it easy to grow a business.
•  3. Due to Arizona’s higher education capabilities and quality of life, companies are able to attract top talent to Arizona.
Unifying force
Tying those elements together and marketing them to the world has been GPEC, which works with its 22 member communities, Maricopa County and more than 150 private investors to attract quality businesses and is credited with helping turn Metro Phoenix into one of the best tech relocation cities.
. . .
Experts say GPEC has been able to effectively market the region thanks to a favorable tax structure and legislative ease, especially compared with markets like California, where there is a lot of regulation, taxes are higher and there are more challenges to doing business.
“Arizona offers a pipeline of opportunities,” Vynalek says. “I’ve observed over the past two decades that the connectivity between Seattle and Phoenix, Silicon Valley and Phoenix and even New York and Phoenix offer pipeline opportunities. People are now seeing Phoenix as a destination for an opportunity and not just as a low-cost provider. What we don’t want to be is just a place where it’s cheap to live. Leaders in other markets are now seeing that Arizona is a great place to do business and there is real innovation happening there. That hasn’t always been the case.”

2018 In-Hindsight: Mesa Mayor John Giles, "Thought Leader-of-The-Year

Can't tell from the opening image what the inside joke is or the subject that made two guys smile, but three days ago Mesa Mayor John Giles was presented with the Dwight Patterson Lifetime Achievement Award by Denny Barney at the East Valley Partnership's 2018 Thought Leadership Forum on 06 December. Believe-it-or-not
Only in Mesa, Kids, only in Mesa !!
Hard-to-believe that Giles is
THE THOUGHT LEADER OF THE YEAR 2018
OK. Hmmm...John Giles A Thought Leader?
The Dwight Patterson Lifetime Achievement Award?
Who can list all of his accomplishments to date?
John Giles, who served on the Mesa City Council for four years 1996-2000, and then 14 years later somehow 'got a calling' to fill in the seat of the highest elected in the city (mayor) left empty when ex-mayor Scott Smith vacated his elected office for higher ambitions - a gambit he lost in 2014 to Governor Doug Ducey.
John Giles, with a gap of 14 years, was the chosen successor in that Good Ole' Boys Political Machine, served for about four months as the incumbent, got challenged by Danny Ray in his run-on-his-own-dime for his first term, then ran unopposed for his second term.
All the while he's been earning a taxpayer-paid salary + a generous benefits package as the only full-time member of the Mesa City Council, he's operated a private law practice as a personal injury/accident law attorney.

East Valley Partnership honors Intel and John Giles with 2018 Excel Awards
3 weeks ago
"According to East Valley Partnership (EVP) – a nonpartisan coalition of civic, business, education and political leaders dedicated to the economic development and promotion of the East Valley (EV) – entrepreneurs in the EV have helped reinvent the business model.
[The] East Valley is a major driver of economic development in metropolitan Phoenix,” Denny Barney, president and CEO, East Valley Partnership, said.
People are seeing the greatness of the East Valley, they’re learning that this is a great place to live and to work and to play. To start a family, to build a business, to make a home.”
On Dec. 6, EVP held its annual Thought Leader Forum where it honored a business and individual with the Excel Award for the “lasting impact they have made on business and the quality of life in the community.”

"I am the luckiest guy that any of you guys know,” Giles said.

“I get to work for Mesa, Arizona, which is such a wonderful opportunity.
It’s a group of talented, motivated, dedicated people that make me look really, really good and as of a result of that I get to come and pick up awards.
So, I can’t thank them enough for making this possible.”

“He is truly one of a kind,” Barney said of Giles.

“It’s not often that you don’t see him with a smile on his face. Even in difficult challenges and challenging times, he’s optimistic and upbeat. He’s a dynamic leader that served in office, stepped away, and then chose to come back. That’s a power representation of what’s really part of his DNA. I’m certainly grateful to him and his leadership.”
“Our region and our cities deserve disruptive leaders,”
Giles said.
"They deserve people who are willing to take chances and stick their neck out and take consequences for the greater good of our [home]. I inspire to be one of those and I hope that you will join me. Let’s go back to our communities and our cities and let’s cause some trouble and let’s be disruptive and let’s make things happen because that’s what the people we work for deserve.”
