Why Your Money Isn't Safe In Your Bank Account

Less than $250K. No Prob
Runs on banks. Hacks into your accounts . . . Hardly anyone uses cash any more

If we look at the history of banking, you could say the first banks we had were merchants belonging to the old world who would give grain loans to farmers or traders. Fast forward to ancient Greece and later during the Roman empire and you had money lenders and money changers. These people would often do their business in temples, and if you know your Christianity, you’ll know that Jesus Christ wasn’t too keen on these people. But it wasn’t until the 14th century that we saw more modern types of banks, with the Italians first, and then the Dutch and later the British leading the way regarding banking. The oldest bank in the world is the Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena in Italy, opened in 1472- but no institution is foolproof, and your money may not always be there when you need it. U.S. Conference of Mayors Winter 2019 Jan 23-25

The United States Conference of Mayors’ 87th Winter Meeting will take place January 23-25, 2019 in Washington, DC.
It will be presided over by Columbia (SC) Mayor Steve Benjamin.
The United States Conference of Mayors is the official non-partisan organization of cities with a population of 30,000 or larger. Each city is represented by its chief elected official, the mayor.

Conference members speak with a united voice on organizational policies and goals. Mayors contribute to the development of national urban policy by serving on one or more of the conference’s standing committees. Conference policies and programs are developed and guided by an Executive Committee and Advisory Board, as well as the standing committees and task forces which are formed to meet changing needs.
During the Conference’s Annual Meeting in June, standing committees recommend policy positions they believe should be adopted by the organization. At this time, every member attending the annual meeting is given the opportunity to discuss and then vote on each policy resolution. Each city, represented by its mayor, casts one vote.
The policy positions adopted at the annual meeting collectively represent the views of the nation’s mayors and are distributed to the President of the United States and Congress.
In addition to the ongoing work of the Conference’s standing committees, mayors are organized into task forces to examine and act on issues that demand special attention such as civic innovation, exports, hunger and homelessness, and brownfields.
