NOTICE OF 30-DAY PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD: City of Mesa Renewal Permit For Proposed Discharge Of Pollutants Into Waters of The United States

The City of Mesa has applied for a renewal AZPDES permit for the proposed discharge of up to 30 million gallons per day (mgd) of treated domestic wastewater from the Greenfield Water Reclamation Plant . . .

Greenfield Water Reclamation Plant (GWRP)

Located in Gilbert, this facility is a 16-million gallon per day water reclamation plant that treats sewage from southeast Mesa, the southeast portion of the Town of Gilbert, and all of the Town of Queen Creek. This treated water is pumped directly to Gilbert's recharge facilities and to the Gila River Indian Community through an intergovernmental agreement for beneficial reuses on agriculture. The GWRP is undergoing expansion to increase Mesa's capacity of the existing plant by 10 million gallons per day.

BLOGGER NOTE: According to this report 
"The Greenfield Water Reclamation Plant will undergo a $48 million expansion project to increase capacity and provide increased wastewater treatment services for Mesa and Gilbert. Mesa, Gilbert and Queen Creek share ownership of the plant, which began as a lift station in 1999. The facility later underwent a Phase II conversion to a reclamation plant.
The current project is part of the facility’s Phase III expansion and will increase the plant’s capacity by 14 million gallons to 30 million gallons of liquids per day. Ten million of those gallons are allotted to Mesa and 4 million are allotted to Gilbert.
“This expansion will help Mesa by supporting development and economic growth in South Mesa,” Mesa Water Resources Department spokeswoman Kathy MacDonald said via email.

The plant, in Gilbert, provides treated wastewater to the southeast portions of Gilbert and Mesa and all of Queen Creek. That water is used for golf courses, crop irrigation, greenbelt irrigation and recharging groundwater supplies.

PHASE III 
The total Phase III expansion cost is pegged at just over $215
and is expected to complete in the summer of 2020.

Facility Information
to the East Maricopa Floodway, tributary to the Gila River in the Middle Gila River Basin in Township 2 S, Range 6 E, Section 15, in Maricopa County, Ariz. The GWRP is a publicly owned treatment works that receives domestic wastewater from residential, commercial and industrial sources in the City of Mesa and the Towns of Queen Creek and Gilbert.  Sludge is treated on-site and then either hauled by a licensed contractor to the Apache Junction Landfill or land applied as Class B Biosolids, with the back-up capability to pump and discharge to the Baseline Interceptor and send to the City of Phoenix 91st Avenue Waste Water Treatment Plant for treatment.

“This was absolutely a community outreach. We spent months and months reaching out and understanding the demands of the Falcon District. We read your comments on Nextdoor about finding hospitality options for relatives,Green said.
Mesa Councilmember David Luna, who represents District 5 that includes the Falcon Airport area where the hotel will be located, said residents have been asking for a hotel for “years and years” and that he is excited to see one finally come to the area.
“I know that residents who live at Las Sendas, as well as Red Mountain Ranch, and throughout District 5, are truly excited about this wonderful hotel,” he said. 
Giles said the hotel will be in the “perfect location because of its proximity to one of the largest employers in Mesa, The Boeing Company.

The Economic Development Advisory Board shall act as the advisory board to the Mesa City Council on matters pertaining to economic development, including 

  • goal setting
  • strategic planning
  • marketing and business recruitment, retention and expansion.  


The membership of the Economic Development Advisory Board shall include: 
  • nine (9) voting members and 
  • up to six (6) ex-officio non-voting members. 
Three of the ex-officio members shall be 
  • the Mayor, City Manager, and the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Mesa Chamber of Commerce
  • and three may be City of Mesa representatives that are currently sitting on the Greater Phoenix Economic Council Board of Directors
The mayor and city manager rarely show up for EDAB meetings.
