Hizzoner Jivin' John Giles > SHAMELESS Distortions of The Reality Of Pioneer Park

Let's have a REALITY CHECK right here and right now:
It is NOT "One of The Great Public Spaces in America"
It's telling testimony in just one minute . . Yup "Covering Mesa" the way city-owned and taxpayer-funded Mesa Channel 11 wants you to see one of The Great Public Spaces in America!
How many members of the public do you see in this clip? Families?
Who exactly is gathering?
STATEMENT IN THE VIDEO BY HIZZONER
Image from City of Mesa Newsroom
"Pioneer Park is now a thriving public space"
NOTE: What "gathering" DO YOU SEE? Looks like a staged appearance of city officials to flash a questionable award arranged by an insider fix
STATEMENT IN THE VIDEO BY HIZZONER
"Pioneer Park is the place our community gathers"
Mebbe the same 'community" that used to publish an annual one-dimensional view of Mesa called Our Town ??????
Here it the uploaded video published on Oct 22, 2019 after city officials got the award plaque they ordered and paid for

Go see and read the Re-Do of a press release dated September 25, 2019 from The City of Mesa News Room that now has inserted this video clip just published a month later on October 22, 2019

Could Be "An Insider-Fix" For Mesa's Pioneer Park Winning A GREAT PLACES IN AMERICA Award
Pardon me, but your MesaZona blogger got baffled and cringed when he heard a week 'through the grapevine' before the public announcement that Pioneer Park, reopened in December 2017 after a $12,000,000 renovation that was twice the original $6M allocation, was going to an award of some kind . . .maybe playground equipment came to mind first . . .

Unsolved Car Bomb-Killing of Investigative Reporter Don Bolles > From Crime Fiction Novel To A New Podcast

Land fraud was at the heart of Bowles reporting-beat back in 1976. Forty-three years and two generations later, Forty-three years later today - and two generations later - the Maricopa County Assessor Paul Petersen is under investigation.                                        Arizona Governor Doug Dicey has now stepped-up and interjected himself into all the negative local and national attention now spotlighting corruption is state government offices by making public assertions calling for the elected County Assessor to resign for indictable crimes. Ducey is creating his own tailor-made media-narrative to cast the emerging land fraud scandal as " once-in-a-generation situation". Trying to bury a story - just like the murder of Don Bolles was cast as an unsolved Gangland Killing.
________________________________________________________________________
Land fraud is no stranger to The Great State of Arizona - "it goes with the territory". Period. No one can deny or challenge that fact from the very beginning even before statehood started officially on February 14th - "Valentine's Day" - in 1912. There's a very long history now spanning more than six generations for land fraud going way back from 'the land grab' of indigenous lands by staking-out homesteads and making claims for water-rights in the mid-1850's. Ya gotta just love it! . . . and keep in mind that the City of Mesa was officially incorporated as a municipal government on the same date for Valentine's Day before that on February 14,1878 by a band of Pioneers sent on a mission from Utah to colonize Arizona.

It could be just a coincidence, or not, that some of those earlier settlement patterns and practices of local and Arizona leaders and elected officials never got tagged as The East Valley Mafia (to borrow a phrase coined by Rogue Columnist Jon Talton connected to the cold-blooded murder of investigative reporter Don Bowles done in broad daylight as a  "Gangland Killing")
Fortunately there's a new generation of reporters writing in The Arizona Republic - among them Jessica Boehm and Robert Anglen - who are digging deeper under the surface of what's being called "adoption crimes" committed by the Maricopa County Assessor. There's a whole lot more just waiting to get brought into-the-light to provide some clear clues what the so-called 'adoption case' is all about . . .
Thanks to some very decent investigative reporting recently published two days ago by Arizona Republic news staff Jessica Boehm and Robert Anglen, we now know more details about some of his dealings in real estate:
County supervisors may suspend Paul Petersen after adoption scheme arrest

The following are selected extracts for your informed interest
  • > Petersen has been in jail since Oct. 8. And an investigation by The Arizona Republic showed he has spent little time at the Assessor's Office in the past year.
  • > Petersen badged into the parking garage for county government workers 53 times from Jan. 1 through Oct. 2, 2019, county records show. That's less than 30% of the available workdays. Most days that he was in the office, he spent about four hours there, records show.  Petersen's taxpayer-funded salary is about $77,000 per year.
  • > In regards to the human trafficking charges, Petersen has a new attorney,  Kurt Altman who said Petersen has no intention of resigning from his elected position.
Altman said the charges against Petersen are allegations, and no evidence has yet been presented in court. . .
"Although sometimes forgotten, our system of criminal justice is still one in which the accused is innocent until proven guilty," he said. "To date, there has been no proof of anything.”
$508,000,000,0000 is a BIG TEMPTATION, even for "A Family Guy" who just happens to earn an annual government salary of $78,000, somehow manages to live with his family in a $600,000 house here in Mesa, owns real estate in both Arizona and Utah, and has a business partner who wired him $500,000 for 'to bail him out"
From this blog MesaZona published on 20 October 2019
Human Tracking Is A Crime. $508,000,000,000 (Billions) is A BIGGER TEMPTATION
Mesa-native and 'Family-Guy' Paul D. Peterson has been caught, apprehended and turned over to The Feds for the multiple-charges engaged in human trafficking, that have received the most media attention. However, his elected job as the Maricopa County Assessor poses more latter-day temptations than the $2.7M in his subpoenaed bank records

Obit from Hansen Mortuary
Louis Stephen Grubb
Lou Grubb, Phoenix automotive business icon whose “Take Five” radio and TV commercials played on Arizona stations for decades, died Jan. 24, 2012 after suffering a cranial bleed, 26 years after he recovered from an aneurysm that drew so much attention that local TV reporters did daily condition reports. He was a month short of his 90th birthday.
Lou was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a man of deep faith and commitment, a lifelong Catholic.

Lou, who came to Arizona in 1945 from his parents’ home in Long Island, founded Grubb Automotive in 1972, developing the company into a conglomerate of Chevrolet, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai, Buick, Mazda, Suzuki and Saturn dealerships.
He sold the company to AutoNation in 1997, remaining with the company as a legacy dealer.
He was such a popular figure that the Arizona Republican Party tried to recruit him in 1977 as a candidate for governor. He wasn’t interested
Lou Grubb and Evelyn (Fountaine), his wife of nearly 61 years, have also benefitted many worthwhile organizations through the Arizona Community Foundation.
Jon Talton, then a columnist for The Arizona Republic, said Lou was renowned for his ads:
“If you grew up in 1960s Phoenix, you can’t forget the soothing TV sales pitch of the real Lou Grubb. He was among the legends of local car dealer media celebs.”
> In a biography of Lou published in 1998, syndicated columnist Paul Harvey, who was a friend, wrote that Lou came to Arizona and “made the most of his newfound wellness, his innate competitive spirit and his Golden Rule business philosophy to build varied automotive enterprises across the Southwest.”

LOU GRUBB CLUBHOUSE AT PAPAGO GOLF COURSE EARNS GOLF INC. HONOR
Magazine awards Doug Fredrikson-design 2nd Place in New Construction – Public Course Category

The state-of-the-art Lou Grubb Clubhouse at Papago Golf Course was honored as Clubhouse of the Year – 2nd Place Public Course, New Construction by Golf Inc. magazine, the world’s only magazine for golf course developers, owners and management company executives.
Designed by Phoenix-based Douglas Fredrikson Architects and built by Wespac Construction Inc., the $6.5 million Lou Grubb Clubhouse is home to the golf course pro shop, Lou’s Bar and Grill and Evie’s Pavilion.
“This award is the result of a fantastic group effort to bring the City of Phoenix, and its many loyal golfers, something everyone can be proud of,” said Papago General Manager, Daryl Crawford.

“We are honored to be included among such a distinguished group of honorees by Golf Inc., and will proudly display this award in the clubhouse.” . .
A municipal golf course for the City of Phoenix, Papago’s revitalization project was done through a three-way, public-private partnership between
>City of Phoenix
> Arizona State University
> Arizona Golf Community Foundation, a nonprofit that promotes public golf.

The AGCF helped to secure funding for the project, which included a large donation from the Lou and Evelyn Grubb Foundation.
The clubhouse construction project included a private facility for the ASU golf teams, improvements to the public practice facilities and a new entrance to the golf course.
The layout of Lou’s Bar and Grill was designed to serve golfers and casual diners alike in a cool-clean, stone-and-steel atmosphere with open spaces that provide an inclusive, indoor-outdoor feel. The “al fresco” dining room and patio seating overlooking green lawns and golf course views provide a setting for small to medium-sized groups, and the adjacent enclosed event hall, Evie’s Pavilion, named after Lou’s wife Evelyn, can accommodate larger groups of up to 120 people.

The top U.S. diplomat for Ukraine, Bill Taylor, breaks his silence and tells Congress about a ‘direct line’ from Pres. Trump to the Ukraine plot at the center of the impeachment probe. In this report within hours of that news breaking on Oct. 22, MSNBC anchor and attorney Ari Melber breaks down the key parts of the new impeachment testimony, and how it goes beyond what other witnesses have said. The report runs through the legal highlights and shows why some experts and members of Congress say this marked the ‘most damning testimony’ to date in Trump’s impeachment probe. Aired on 10/22/19.

Streaming Rights For Reruns Skyrocketing > Old Sitcoms, Adult Animations + Raunchy Potty-Mouth Kids

ON THE AUCTION BLOCK: ready for more contents
"As many as a half-dozen companies are bidding for exclusive U.S. streaming rights to past episodes of the show, which has been available on Walt Disney Co.’s Hulu in recent years. Viacom and the show’s creators hope to secure a new deal by the end of 2019 and could decide on the winning bidder as soon as this weekend, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the negotiations are private . . ."
‘South Park’ Nears $500 Million Deal for U.S. Streaming Rights
  • Edgy animated show is the latest TV show on the auction block
  • Comedy Central series currently streams on Hulu in the U.S.

Excerpts are taken from Bloomberg News :
"The value of popular TV reruns has skyrocketed, fueled by new streaming platforms seeking programming that can lure subscribers and provide an edge over rivals.
Viacom and “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone expect the multiyear deal to net more than double what Hulu paid in 2015.
________________________________________________________________________
Parker and Stone have used their profit from “South Park” and their hit Broadway play “The Book of Mormon” to create and fund their own studio, which was valued at $300 million in 2013

. . . That value is about to go way up.
________________________________________________________________________
That’s comparable to what Comcast Corp. paid to license “The Office” for its coming streaming service Peacock and what AT&T Inc. paid to grab “Friends” for HBO Max.

Both of those programs are on Netflix for now.

Netflix Inc. responded by paying more than $500 million for worldwide rights to “Seinfeld.”

> Netflix, Amazon.com Inc. and Hulu have previously shown an interest in adult animation -- though Netflix is now focused more on original series, such as “Big Mouth.”
(Netflix has dropped out of the bidding, according to one of the people.)
> Hulu, meanwhile, remains interested in keeping the show on its platform, though only if the price doesn’t go too high, one of the people said.
> CBS Corp., which is merging with Viacom, has its own streaming service that could be a home for the show. But that merger won’t close before the licensing deal does, and CBS doesn’t have the same resources on its own as most of the bidders.
> Peacock and HBO Max are rushing to build libraries of shows ahead of their debuts next year. They are announcing new licensing deals every few weeks and have been the most aggressive in bidding on library titles. Both are in the chase for “South Park,” the people said.
> One company that probably won’t be bidding is Apple Inc., the people said.
The tech giant has eschewed controversial programming that could damage its brand, and it’s wary of offending China, where it sells a lot of iPhones. “South Park” was just banned in China after an episode mocked the country’s censorship of Western movies and TV.
_________________________________________________________________________
The riches from the sale will be split between Viacom, Parker and Stone under a unique deal forged in 2007.
The creators and the media giant split all the digital rights 50-50 under a joint venture that covers streaming, mobile and games.
Netflix previously licensed South Park” through a deal with Viacom, a transaction that paid out in the tens of millions.
Hulu snagged the rights in 2014 and reupped it a year later.
