This report is released every year by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network for the United Nations. It is a survey of the state of global happiness that ranks 156 countries by how happy their citizens perceive themselves to be. In this DNS we will know about the Happiness Report and the rankings of the countries. ____________________________________________________________________________________

Cities and Happiness: A Global Ranking and Analysis

  • Jan-Emmanuel De Neve
Here is one excerpt:
"We rank cities' quality of life fundamentally differently than existing rankings: our ranking relies entirely on city dwellers' self-reported quality of life, measured in terms of their subjective well-being. One might criticise our ranking for relying only on subjective indicators. We argue that this is precisely their advantage. We are not relying on a limited number of objective dimensions of quality of life, often defined ex-ante according to what researchers (or policy-makers) consider important. Instead, our ranking is bottom up, emancipating city dwellers to consider for themselves which factors they feel matter most to them. Arguably, this makes it also a more democratic way of measuring their quality of lives.

Our ranking of cities' happiness does not yield fundamentally different results than existing rankings: Scandinavian cities and cities in Australia and New Zealand score high when it comes to the subjective well-being of their residents; cities in countries with histories of political instability, (civil) war, armed conflict, and recent incidences of terrorism score low. Deploying a diverse set of subjective well-being indicators, including evaluative measures such as current and future life evaluation as well as experiential measures such as positive and negative affect, our ranking paints an internally consistent image.

The MARS Project > Maricopa County Land Valuations In The Aftermath of 'Family-Guy' Paul Petersen

Voters may have been hard-pressed to name the former Maricopa County assessor before his 2019 arrest for running an international adoption scam.

Winner Of Maricopa County Assessor Race Must Deal With Big Tech Project

Aaron Connor and Eddie Cook

"After Paul Petersen quit the job, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors appointed Eddie Cook to finish his term. The Republican Cook faces a challenge from Democrat Aaron Connor on Election Day.

The keys to the Assessor’s Office came with a tech problem. The project to replace the 1992 system that holds decades of property data, and performs complex mathematical equations to value land in Maricopa County, fell behind under Petersen. The delay was expected to be costly.

Cook said he’s met the Canadian vendor working on the project, explained his own tech background, and told the vendor about another product he could use instead.

“They now know that I have expectations that I’m going to follow through with,” he said.

The company’s response has been positive, Cook said. He estimated the so-called MARS project could go live in early 2022.

Cook’s opponent, Aaron Connor, also knows tech. Connor thinks scrapping the project would be a mistake. And he wants to create an app so people can do everything on their smartphone that they already do on their desktop.

“Maricopa County being the fourth largest county in the nation I’m surprised that we don’t have a mobile app,” he said.

Connor is the first Democrat to run for Maricopa County assessor in this century.

ZOOM VIRTUAL PLATFORM [Meeting ID 5301232921] Mesa City Council Study Session Mon 10.05.2020 at 5:15 p.m.

The Final Agenda (inserted farther down) was printed on Thu 10.01 preceded on page one with the now not-unusual Notice using a safeguard to decrease exposure to the air-borne COVID-19 contagion to close-down City Council Chambers to the public - and the elected seven members - at the same time allowing salaried city officials like the city manager and city attorney to sit closely side-by-side almost next to each other plus three other city officials on the other side of the tables seated together in close proximity. In addition if there are presentations to be made (or back-up people who might be needed to answer potential questions) they are permitted in-person inside The Lower Chambers rather than from a remote location at home or at a work station.

For an example, you can watch all that in the VOD from Mesa Channel 11 http://mesa11.com/vod/?show=1945&Mode2=Video or
