CATCHING UP WITH ANDY: Last Week He Spent His Time Back Home in Arizona Banging on The Same Old Clangers

But it was another Arizona Congressman who got all the headlines and social media attention.

The Week in Review

Happy Friday!

This week, I spent my time in Arizona. It’s always good to be back in the Fighting Fifth district, spending time with constituents and seeing how I can better represent you all back on Capitol Hill. Read below to learn more about the important happenings of the week:

Democrats Pass Phase One of Socialist Spending Spree

Last Friday night (and early into Saturday morning), the Democrats passed phase one of their Socialist Spending Spree, the so-called “infrastructure” bill. Despite Democrats’ rosy messaging about the bill, I have serious concerns about the harm it will do to our economy. Although they have won this battle, Democrats have further provoked the growing movement of angry, working-class Americans who are tired of the Left’s radical agenda. Celebrating our Veterans

This week, my office celebrated our American heroes by hosting Salute to Veterans, a night of entertainment and respectful ceremony to honor the men and women who fought to defend our country. Countless veterans have selflessly served our country for hundreds of years defending the freedoms we hold so dear. They all served under the same flag, for the same values, and for the same common goal of defending our individual liberties. It was an honor to highlight and pay tribute to their heroic work.

I’d like to give a special thanks to KTAR radio host Mike Broomhead, former U.S. Air Force fighter pilot Captain James Udell, U.S. Air Force Chaplain Captain Nathan Mestler, U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major Rick Kreiberg, the Wilcken Family Singers, the Mesa City Band, Arizona Patriot Guard Riders, and all the vendors who helped make Salute to Veterans possible.

Please enjoy the photos from this moving event.

On Thursday, I participated in the East Valley Veterans Parade. It was wonderful to see so many people come out to celebrate our community’s veterans. I will always be grateful for their service and was humbled to be a part of the celebrations. Check out some photos from the parade below.

Gilbert & Chandler Chamber of Commerce

This week, I joined the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce and the Chandler Chamber of Commerce to discuss Congressional happenings in D.C. that are affecting businesses here in Arizona. We discussed a variety of topics, including the supply chain crisis, Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine mandates, rising inflation, and many other issues. Since the beginning of the pandemic, businesses around the country have taken the brunt of a stifled economy. President Biden has taken it a step further by enforcing unconstitutional vaccine mandates that have destabilized the efforts of businesses trying to get back on track. It is my mission to stop Biden’s blatant overreach. I’ve introduced several bills to prevent the vaccine mandate, including my most recent one to abolish OSHA, the federal agency responsible for enforcing the mandate on private businesses. It is imperative that we keep up the good fight and enforce policies that support the rights and privacy of every American. I’m grateful to both chambers for inviting me to be a part of these conversations. Check out photos from the events below:

Back at the Border

On Tuesday, I visited the Tucson sector of the border. Our border communities are still dealing with the immigration crisis created by the Biden administration, which has done everything but enforce our laws and punish those who cross our border illegally. The Biden administration needs to focus its energies on reinstating the Remain in Mexico program as it has been ordered to do by a court, allowing ICE to enforce immigration law, and working with Congress to close the loopholes that serve as a pull factor for illegal immigration. I know securing our border will always be an uphill battle with Biden and the Far Left, so I will continue visiting the border and checking in with our Border Patrol agents on the latest updates. Check out the video below on my most recent trip to the border and why certain sections of the wall are referred to as “luxury doors” by the cartels.

Interview with Mornings with Maria

Today, I went on Mornings with Maria to discuss the Democrats’ so-called “infrastructure” bill. For months, we’ve discussed how this bill is a trojan horse for Green New Deal policies and Far Left socialist ideals. Unfortunately, it was Republican members, or RINOs (Republicans In Name Only), who surprised America by giving the Democrats enough votes to pass this bill. As I tweeted last Friday, these RINOs are the very reason why the American people have lost trust in Congress. Click below to see my full interview on Mornings with Maria regarding it:

Matt Lewis (in The Daily Beast): Where Republicans Go

Somebody may say where the Sun don't shine into that sinister 'dark side' or down that open pit troublesome 'Rabbit-Hole' or even enjoy being in The Limelight, but NOT
Republicans couldn’t revel in their Virginia victory for long before reverting to extremist type, including Paul Gosar’s bizarre anime video depicting him killing AOC

Republicans Return to Their Happy Place: Full-On Crazy

In politics, a week is a lifetime.
Just one week ago, the big stories were Republican Glenn Youngkin winning the Virginia gubernatorial election and Democrats spinning out in their trademark disarray. Among other problems, the party seemed out of touch with suburban moms and dads. On top of that, progressives were hindering Democrats from passing a bipartisan infrastructure bill that might have—just by demonstrating competence and momentum—thrown Virginia Democratic candidate Terry McAuliffe a lifeline.
Days later, Democrats, with the help of 13 Republicans, finally did pass an infrastructure bill. Then, rather than building on the promise of “normal” Republicanism (as represented by Youngkin), Republicans reminded everyone who they really were.

They did this with white nationalist-adjacent Rep. Paul Gosar’s bizarre and disturbing anime video (which depicts him killing Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez). They did this with Sen. Ted Cruz’s attack on Big Bird. And they did this with threats aimed at the 13 House Republicans who broke ranks and voted for the infrastructure bill. (After Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene referred to them as “traitors” and posted their names and phone numbers, Rep. Fred Upton received death threats.)

The threats against these 13 Republicans are obviously beyond the pale, even if I’m sympathetic to conservatives who feel frustrated with their actions (National Review called bailing out Dems “political malpractice”). But just as you might criticize the 13 Republicans for disobeying the maxim “Never interfere with an enemy in the process of destroying himself,” their critics are making the same mistake. Democrats, as recently as a week ago, were in the process of committing political suicide. Cruz, Gosar, and Greene effectively looked at the mess Democrats were in and said, “Hold my beer!”

Conservative writer Jonah Goldberg has made the observation that neither party wants to be a majority party. Instead, both major political parties seem hell-bent on achieving minority status. This assessment rings true, but it deserves an asterisk: You can’t really blame the party leaders or the party apparatus for most of the problems. Social media and other innovations have made it much harder for leaders to maintain message discipline. Most of the crazy things attributed to both “parties”—things that may rightly turn off normal Americans—are the result of freelancing.

[. . .]

The interesting thing is that these actors in both parties cannot leave well enough alone. This is true both in terms of silly things and in terms of substantive policy decisions. Six months ago, Joe Biden was riding high. Then, he decided to withdraw from Afghanistan, and all hell broke loose. In the intervening months, he has maybe had one or two good news cycles. Maybe. And the really crazy thing is that the withdrawal was largely a disaster of his choosing. All he had to do was nothing.

Likewise, Republicans couldn’t revel in the Virginia victory for a few days without changing the narrative.

Again, the desire to meddle is the perfectly rational result of perverse incentives. There is money and attention and TV segments and Twitter buzz to be had for the politician willing to say or do outrageous things. So some of this is calculated and performative. Some of the craziness, though, is sincere. And some of this is simply the result of failed or unwise assumptions about what the public wants.

Whatever the motivation, crazy has consequences—the worst get on top. . ."

TWO FOR-THE-ROAD: The Year-End Rush in Speculative Real Estate Projects Near PMGA and The Promise of High-Paying Jobs

4 million-square-foot Cubes at Mesa Gateway coming to East Valley

Real Estate | 30 Oct |

CRG, the national real estate development and investment firm, today announced plans to develop The Cubes at Mesa Gateway, which will bring up to 4 million square feet of speculative and build-to-suit space to a 268-acre site in Mesa. The Cubes at Mesa Gateway will be the largest master-planned, development-ready industrial park delivered in the Southeast Valley, which is expected to add over 120,000 residents by 2025.

“The Cubes at Mesa Gateway is in good company, joining a growing list of developments choosing to locate in Mesa,” said Mesa Mayor John Giles. “This is also a timely and exciting addition to the Gateway area and for the Southeast Valley, to help accommodate the growth and need for space for large users. We look forward to the groundbreaking!”

Strategically located between E. Pecos Rd. and E. Germann Rd. in southeast Mesa, The Cubes at Mesa Gateway is five miles from the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport and just south of the now under-construction AZ 24 freeway expansion, which will offer direct access to Loop 202 and the greater Phoenix area.

“The Cubes will be a tremendous addition to southeast Mesa and the region, providing more jobs and more business development opportunities in the fastest growing part of the east valley,” District 6 Councilmember Kevin Thompson said. “With its proximity to Gateway Airport and the nearby freeways, District 6 is the perfect location for a major project like this.”

JLL Managing Director Steve Larsen represented CRG in the land acquisition and will work alongside JLL Managing Director Pat Harlan and Senior Vice President Jason Moore to handle leasing for the project, which will offer multiple building and size configurations ranging from 250,000 square feet to 1.2 million square feet, with build-to-suit opportunities and options to buy improved lots. . .

Catering to a wide range of users in bulk distribution, e-commerce fulfillment and specialized manufacturing, the development will be constructed by CRG’s parent company Clayco, with enterprise partner Lamar Johnson Collaborative as architect.

Offsite infrastructure improvements to all four sides of the property will begin immediately and include road widening, installation of traffic signals and utility expansion.

The first phase of vertical construction is slated to begin in second quarter 2022, with delivery of the first building expected to coincide with the completion of the AZ 24 expansion in the fourth quarter of 2022. The full site is expected to be completed in late 2024. . .

All of CRG’s The Cubes-branded facilities are located in regional logistics hubs with robust transit infrastructure, high workforce availability and large population bases.

“CRG’s vertically integrated platform brings together the development, engineering, architecture, construction, capital markets and legal expertise needed to successfully deliver development projects of this size,” said Shawn Clark, president of CRG. “And the Southeast Valley, with its robust mix of sophisticated industrial users and highly-skilled workforce, is a model location for The Cubes-branded master-planned industrial park to serve large-scale needs. It is a star addition to our portfolio.”

Gulfstream brings $70M investment, hundreds of jobs to Mesa

Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, a world leader in business jet aircraft manufacturing and maintenance, has announced they will construct a new 225,000 square foot maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility at the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (Gateway Airport, Airport).

“Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport is an ideal location for Gulfstream’s newest MRO facility,” said Derek Zimmerman, president, Gulfstream Customer Support. “Not only is it an established airport for business aviation operators, its infrastructure and size provide a great location for both Gulfstream and our customers. The state of Arizona, the city of Mesa and the airport authority have been incredibly welcoming and supportive of our efforts to expand our service capabilities. The new facility and the job creation that will follow is great news for our customers, our employees and the community.”

City of Mesa Mayor John Giles, Chairman of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority (PMGAA), added, “The arrival of Gulfstream is further proof that Gateway Airport is one of the best locations in North America for MRO and other aerospace facilities. The hundreds of high-wage jobs and educational partnerships that will be generated with this facility will have a profound impact on the entire region.”

When completed, the new facility will total 250,000 square feet and represents a $70 million investment by Gulfstream. . .

“Gulfstream’s arrival represents the single largest private investment in the history of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport,” said J. Brian O’Neill A.A.A.E, PMGAA Executive Director/CEO. “Gateway Airport has proven to be an ideal location for MRO facilities, and Gulfstream’s announcement further validates our position as a global industry leader.”

“This partnership will propel Greater Phoenix’s thriving aerospace footprint and allow the region to become a blueprint for aerospace success,” said Chris Camacho, President & CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council. “We are proud to be among Gulfstream’s partners in this innovative step forward.”

> Gulfstream has also announced workforce development partnerships with Arizona State University and Chandler-Gilbert Community College, located adjacent to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. These partnerships will prepare tomorrow’s workers and provide high-paying jobs in the fast-growing aerospace sector.

Gateway Airport is served by five commercial airlines offering nonstop service to more than 60 domestic and international destinations. The Airport also boasts of approximately one thousand acres of aeronautical and non-aeronautical land available for development.

 > SkyBridge Arizona is a 360-acre master development offering large parcels and airfield access.

> The GatewayEast master development includes 400-acres of mixed-use non-aeronautical development opportunities strategically located adjacent to two highway systems."

Slavoj Zizek: US enters brutal ideological civil war as four-party system begins to take form

Somehow we have lost common ground at the center - no longer bi-partisan in a divergence that's more bi-polar extending to the extremes.
"Non-Partisan" is a Non Sequitur no matter what sides we see emerging.

READ BETWEEN-THE-LINES
". . .the US is entering into an ideological civil war in which there is no shared ground to which both parties to the conflict can appeal – the more each side elaborates its position, the more it becomes clear that no dialogue, even a polemical one, is possible. . .because the true conflict is not between the Democrats and the Republicans but within each of the parties."
Two weeks ago, while promoting his new film in Mexico City, Harrison Ford said that “America has lost its moral leadership and credibility.”
Really? When did the US exert moral leadership over the world?
Under Reagan or Bush?
They lost what they never had, ie, they lost the illusion (the “credibility” made in Harrison’s claim) that they’ve had it. With Trump, what was already true merely became visible.

Back in 1948, at the outset of the Cold War, this truth was formulated with brutal candor by US diplomat and historian George Kennan: “[The US has] 50 percent of the world’s wealth but only 6.3 percent of its population. In this situation, our real job in the coming period…is to maintain this position of disparity. To do so, we have to dispense with all sentimentality…we should cease thinking about human rights, the raising of living standards and democratization.”

In this we find an explanation of what Trump means by “America first!” in much clearer and more honest terms. So we should not be shocked when we read that “the Trump administration, which came into office pledging to end ‘endless wars,’ has now embraced weapons prohibited by more than 160 countries, and is readying them for future use. Cluster bombs and anti-personnel landmines, deadly explosives known to maim and kill civilians long after fighting has ended, have become integral to the Pentagon’s future war plans.”

> Those who act  surprised by such news are simply hypocrites: in our upside-down world, Trump is innocent (not impeached) while Assange is guilty (for disclosing state crimes).

[. . .]

The big difference is that, while Trump’s populism easily asserted its hegemony over the Republican establishment (a clear proof, if one was ever needed, that, in spite of all Bannon’s ranting against the “system,” Trump’s reference to ordinary workers is a lie), the split within the Democratic party is getting stronger and stronger – no wonder, since the struggle between the Democratic establishment and the Sanders wing is the only true political struggle going on.

To use a little bit of theoretical jargon, we are thus dealing with two antagonisms (“contradictions”), the one between Trump and the liberal establishment (this is what the impeachment was about), and the one between the Sanders wing of the Democratic Party and all the others.

[. . .]

And all these cards will be played on grounds of a fear of Socialism. Critics of Sanders repeat again and again that Trump cannot be beaten from his (Sanders’) all-too-leftist platform, and the main thing is to get rid of Trump. To this we should just answer that the true message hidden in this argument is: if the choice is between Trump and Sanders, we prefer Trump…"
