Dolly Parton's next donation will be as big as her heart

The beloved country music icon (and newly minted Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee) is the new recipient of billionaire Jeff Bezos' Courage and Civility Award, which carries a $100 million donation for Parton to bestow upon the charities of her choice.

"Did you say $100 million dollars?" a wowed Parton asked as she joined Bezos, the second-richest person in the world (after Elon Musk), and his partner Lauren Sanchez to accept the honor on Frida.

Previous recipients include CNN host Van Jones and Spanish chef José Andrés.

"When people are in a position to help, you should help. I know that I've always said I try to put my money where my heart is and I think you do the same thing," Parton told the crowd. "I will do my best to do good things with this money." . . .

Bezo tweeted a clip of announcement on Saturday, praising the star for her generous nature.

"I always want to do things that I can be proud to talk about, things that I believe in," Parton told the magazine. "I cannot be a hypocrite and just say I'm going to donate this money for a tax write-off. I'd really like for it to mean something to me – something I can take pride in."

COUNTER NARRATIVE: Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov Takes on Western Propaganda in Southeast Asia

Sergey Viktorovich Lavrov is a Russian diplomat and politician who has served as the Foreign Minister of Russia since 2004.

Speaking during a press conference at the conclusion of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Phnom Penh, Lavrov scolded the United States over its actions in the region, which both Russia and the West see as a potential strategic geopolitical battleground in the coming decades.

NATO hopes to play leading role in Asia-Pacific region — Lavrov

"The Russian foreign minister drew attention to a tendency to militarize the region by matching the efforts of local US allies, Australia, New Zealand and Japan, with an expanding NATO presence

PHNOM PENH, November 13. /TASS/. NATO has stopped claiming its defensive essence and now hopes to play a leading role in the Asia-Pacific region, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters on Sunday following his participation in the East Asia Summit.

"NATO no longer says that it is a purely defensive alliance. It was a defensive alliance when the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact existed. They have moved their line of defense since then, when there is no longer the Warsaw Pact or the Soviet Union. It is unclear from whom they were defending themselves. They have moved this line of defense closer to our borders several times, and now they announced at the Madrid summit this summer that they have global responsibility and that the security of Euro-Atlantic and the Indo-Pacific region are indivisible," the top diplomat said.·

"That is, in fact, they are now claiming that they will play a leading role here (in the Asia-Pasific region - TASS) and are already shifting the so-called defense line to the South China Sea," Lavrov added.

✓ The Russian foreign minister drew attention to a tendency to militarize the region by matching the efforts of local US allies, Australia, New Zealand and Japan, with an expanding NATO presence. According to him, the Russian side frankly outlined its assessments at the East Asia Summit summit, and approaches similar to the Russian ones were voiced by Beijing as well.

"However, unfortunately, this will hardly make the US and its allies take into account the interests of most of the countries that are here," Lavrov continued, "But we will continue to convey our position. It is met with understanding within ASEAN, although there is no consensus in ASEAN as well on how to proceed in the security sphere in this region.

✓✓ So if the goal is to sow doubt in ASEAN and try to undermine their monolithic position, then the Americans have achieved their goal."

The Russian top diplomat noted the position of most ASEAN countries, which, according to him, were focused on defending their own interests and not subordinating ASEAN's actions to the interests of extra-regional players. "Our partners highly estimate the position of Russia, the position of China, which are in favor of preserving the central role of ASEAN," Lavrov summarized."

Southeast Asian leaders call for unity amid global tensions

Countries eye strained ties between the US and China with major international summits in the Asia-Pacific region.

"Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen has called for unity, respect and multilateralism at a summit that included China, Russia and the United States, saying current global tensions have created hardships for everyone.

Hun Sen was speaking at the opening of the East Asia Summit (EAS), attended by 18 countries, in Phnom Penh as Cambodia holds the rotating chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

He said he hoped leaders would embrace a “spirit of togetherness in upholding open and inclusive multilateralism, pragmatism and mutual respect in addressing the existential and strategic challenges we all face”.

While he didn’t single out a country by name, there have been long-simmering tensions between the United States and China, with the latter working to expand its influence in the Asia-Pacific region and Washington strongly backing self-ruled Taiwan, which Beijing claims.

“Many current challenges and tensions have been hindering our past hard-earned efforts to promote sustainable development and causing greater hardship to people’s lives,” he said as he opened the meeting, which is running in parallel to ASEAN’s main summit.

The 10-member ASEAN bloc includes Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The EAS groups the ASEAN countries, as well as Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Russia and the United States.

Tensions remain high between the US and China over Taiwan, while Russia’s invasion of Ukraine disrupted global supply chains, creating food shortages and energy crises around the world.

US President Joe Biden and Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang were at the event, a day before the highly anticipated meeting between Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Group of G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia.. ."

Why Keep Asking??. . .Just Wait-and-See | Politico

Since 2020, when Arizona flipped for Biden, thoughts of the swing state have festered in the minds of election deniers. And now, once again, the election there is careening towards an uncertain finish. While the predictions of a scorching red wave sweeping the country have fizzled — and Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly has defeated Republican Blake Masters — only several thousand votes separate gubernatorial candidates in the battle for Arizona.

The battle for Arizona: Will election denialism prevail?

But more than a governorship is at stake in Arizona, which became a hotbed for misinformation in 2020 and beyond. There, whoever ends up in the governor’s mansion could either work to normalize false claims of a Trump win on a grander stage, or finally put it all to rest. Either way, what happens in Arizona will likely have wide implications in the 2024 election, which may see President Biden and former President Donald Trump in a rematch.

Republican Kari Lake, the one-time newscaster who unabashedly ties her race to what she describes as a stolen presidential election, has become Trump’s brightest star in an otherwise disappointing midterm season for the MAGA GOP. While Arizona’s Democratic Secretary of State Katie Hobbs held a mighty lead in the polls throughout the campaign, Lake has been able to chip away to a near-even match-up after Election Day. Now, as the votes are being counted, the question becomes: Will enough voters galvanize behind Lake to propel her to the governor’s office? Or could this be the last stand of election denialism in the country?

    Windows

Microsoft has reminded customers today that all editions of Windows 10 21H1 (also known as the May 2021 Update) are reaching the end of service (EOS) next month.

Today's reminder comes after two other warnings issued since September that this Windows version will reach its retirement date on December 13, 2022.

Windows customers should upgrade to the latest release as soon as possible to avoid exposing their devices to attacks exploiting unpatched security vulnerabilities since Windows 10 21H1 will no longer receive security updates.

"To help keep you protected and productive, Windows Update will automatically initiate a feature update for Windows 10 consumer devices and non-managed business devices that are at, or within several months of reaching end of servicing," Microsoft said.

"This keeps your device supported and receiving monthly updates that are critical to security and ecosystem health. For these devices, you will be able to choose a convenient time for your device to restart and complete the update."

The complete list of Windows 10 21H1 editions reaching their end of service includes:

    • Windows 10 Enterprise, version 21H1
    • Windows 10 Enterprise multi-session, version 21H1
    • Windows 10 Education, version 21H1
    • Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, version 21H1
    • Windows 10 Home, version 21H1
    • Windows 10 Pro, version 21H1
    • Windows 10 Pro Education, version 21H1
    • Windows 10 Pro for Workstations, version 21H1

Enterprise admins can deploy it through Windows Server Update Services (including Configuration Manager), Windows Update for Business, and the Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC).

The Windows 10 2022 Update is only being offered to customers with systems running Windows 10, version 20H2 and later.

Users with Windows 11-compatible devices can also upgrade to Windows 11 22H2, given that the latest Windows version is now available to all seekers on eligible devices.
