COUNT-DOWN to Vilnius Summit > Details: Zelenskyy has stressed that "it all depends on our partners".

"Obviously, Ukraine can't become a NATO member in the midst of the war, but the relevant procedures should be created in order to avoid wasting time after the war comes to an end and Ukraine wins.”
Ukraine applied for NATO membership last September.
Several NATO members immediately supported this move, while others were hesitant about it.

However, while NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that NATO's door remains open for Ukraine, no official invitation should be expected yet.

In June, U.S. political news outlet Politico reported that Ukraine's partner nations are still divided over nearly every element of how to respond to the request for the security guarantees Ukraine requires following the end of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

We are working with our partners as hard as we can to ensure that our common security in Vilnius prevails; it all depends on our partners - address by the President of Ukraine

Fellow Ukrainians!

A report on this day.

1 First: The meeting of the Staff was particularly long, particularly detailed
We discussed the safety of our strategic facilities, our nuclear power plants. There were relevant reports, relevant decisions, and - very importantly - control over the implementation of decisions.

By the way, we maintain maximum contact with our partners to ensure that no one in the world has even the slightest shortage of information about the situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP and the threats posed by Russia.

✓ As always, we discussed in detail the key areas of the East and South. Thank you, warriors, for your bravery!

✓ We are also paying attention to the Northern direction - we see all potential threats, and the Commander-in-Chief has been instructed to continue strengthening the North.

✓ Very importantly, at every meeting of the Staff, we return to the issue of ammunition, in particular for our artillery. And this applies not only to supplies from partners, but also to production in Ukraine. I am grateful to each and every person who works to fulfill this strategic, vital task. We are constantly making progress in the production of weapons in Ukraine.

2 The second important thing that happened today

We  are preparing new sanctions, sanction steps by our government, and today I held a meeting with First Deputy Prime Minister Svyrydenko and National Security and Defense Council Secretary Danilov. The decisions will be made soon.

3 Third, I held a separate meeting on the situation with shelters in different regions of our country, in different cities. The reports were delivered by Minister of Strategic Industries Kamyshin and specialized Deputy Head of the Office for Regional Policy Kuleba.

Unfortunately, in different cities of Ukraine, there is still a significant lack of availability of shelters... after all this time. The state will not tolerate such inaction. And this is the responsibility of local leaders. Local authorities in the country have the resources to build shelters.

One more thing.

There is exactly one week left until the key day of the NATO Summit in Vilnius. That means a week until the key moment for our common security in Europe. We are working with our partners as hard as we can to ensure that our common security in Vilnius prevails. It all depends on our partners.

Glory to all Ukrainian heroes! Glory to each of our combat brigades, all units of our defense and security forces!

Glory to Ukraine!

Ukraine may be offered fast-track NATO membership in Vilnius, Lithuanian president says

The New Voice of Ukraine

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda has said that it’s possible that Ukraine will receive an offer of fast track NATO membership at the upcoming summit in Vilnius on July 11-12, according to a report by Reuters on July 4.

"We have some countries which are cautious about the stronger wording on Ukraine's perspective," Nauseda as said.

"But I already see some shift in the minds of their leaders. Obviously, Ukraine can't become a NATO member in the midst of the war, but the relevant procedures should be created in order to avoid wasting time after the war comes to an end and Ukraine wins.”

Nauseda called on other countries to not hesitate and be brave in the wake of upcoming changes. This will help to make Kyiv even more effective at the battlefield, while Moscow will consider any caution as weakness.

"We should not hesitate to take bolder decisions because otherwise the Putin regime will decide that the Western allies are too weak, that they should be pushed to the corner and they will surrender,” Nauseda said.

A more determined position regarding Ukraine's NATO prospects will help to increase the fighting spirit of Ukrainian soldiers, he added.

Ukraine's NATO accession

Ukraine applied for NATO membership last September. Several NATO members immediately supported this move, while others were hesitant about it.

However, while NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that NATO's door remains open for Ukraine, no official invitation should be expected yet.

In June, U.S. political news outlet Politico reported that Ukraine's partner nations are still divided over nearly every element of how to respond to the request for the security guarantees Ukraine requires following the end of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

US President Joe Biden backs the plan of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg that Ukraine could skip the step of a complete a membership action plan to join the treaty, U.S. news website Axios reported in June.

At the same time, Biden said that he wouldn't ease barriers for Ukraine's membership into NATO because every country has to meet the same standards, CNN reported.

"I think they've done everything related to demonstrating the ability to coordinate militarily," he said, but that other systemic issues remain.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that he sees no reason to attend the Vilnius summit if Ukraine’s NATO membership is not on the table.

UNINTENDED ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION from Starlink satellites detected with LOFARA new phenomenon in Low Earth Orbit / An entirely new complexity...

New radio observations confirm unintended electromagnetic radiation emanating from large satellite constellations

Scientists from a number of leading research institutions including the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy in Bonn, Germany, used the Low Frequency Array (LOFAR) telescope to observe 68 of SpaceX's satellites. The authors conclude that they detected "unintended electromagnetic radiation" emanating from onboard electronics.
  • This is different from communications transmissions, which had been the primary focus for radio astronomers so far. The unintended radiation could impact astronomical research. The researchers encourage  and regulators to consider this impact on radio astronomy in spacecraft development and regulatory processes alike.
The research is published in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics.

A new phenomenon in low Earth orbit
Astronomers listening for very faint signals from the universe have always had to manage human-made radio signals that can outshine astrophysical sources. Hence, most  are built in locations with special radio-protections from terrestrial interference. Some are even located in radio quiet zones supported by the respective national regulators.
  • Recent technological advances have enabled large satellite constellations that are being deployed for broadband internet access or Earth observation. They present an entirely new complexity. With many thousands of satellites in low Earth orbit, any radio telescope will have many satellites radiating signals in its view at any given time.
The expectation has been that the primary source of concern from satellite constellations will be from their planned communications transmissions to and from the Earth. The discovery of additional non-communication sources is novel and merits further inquiry.
"This study represents the latest effort to better understand satellite constellations' impact on radio astronomy," said lead author Federico Di Vruno. "Previous workshops on Dark and Quiet Skies theorized about this radiation, our observations confirm it is measurable."
  • Di Vruno is the co-director of the International Astronomical Union's Center for the Protection of the Dark and Quiet Sky from Satellite Constellation Interference (IAU CPS) and also spectrum manager for the SKA Observatory (SKAO). The other authors are all active members of the CPS.
Existing and planned constellations
  • Di Vruno and his co-authors initially focused on SpaceX satellites because SpaceX had the largest number of satellites—more than 2,000—in orbit at the time of the observations.
  • However, they recognize that SpaceX is not the only operator of large satellite constellations. The authors expect to detect similar unintended emissions from other low-Earth-orbiting satellites, and further measurement work is planned already focusing on other satellite constellations.
"With LOFAR, we detected radiation between 110 and 188 MHz from 47 out of the 68 satellites that were observed. This  includes a protected band between 150.05 and 153 MHz specifically allocated to radio astronomy by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU)," says co-author Cees Bassa from ASTRON, the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy.
SpaceX is nevertheless not violating any rules, as for satellites, this kind of radiation is not covered by any international regulation.
  • In contrast, terrestrial equipment is regulated by strict rules to ensure that one device does not interfere with another one nearby.
The authors also performed simulations of this effect from several satellite constellations.
  •  "Our simulations show that the larger the constellation, the more important this effect becomes as the radiation from all satellites adds up. This makes us not only worried about the existing constellations, but even more about the planned ones. And also about the absence of clear regulation that protects the  bands from unintended radiation," says co-author Benjamin Winkel from the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy (MPIfR) in Germany.
Increased collaboration with satellite operators is key
The authors are in close contact with SpaceX, and the company has offered to continue to discuss possible ways to mitigate any adverse effects to astronomy in good faith.
  • As part of their design iteration, SpaceX has already introduced changes to its next generation of satellites which could mitigate the impact of these unintended emissions on important astronomical projects.
Co-author Gyula Józsa (also MPIfR and Rhodes University in South Africa) states, "We believe that the early recognition of this situation gives astronomy and large  operators an opportunity to work together on technical mitigations pro-actively, in parallel to the necessary discussions to develop suitable regulations."
"The present study highlights an example of the various channels of how technology development may have unforeseen side effects on ," concludes Prof. Michael Kramer, Director at the MPIfR and President of the Astronomische Gesellschaft in Germany. He distinctly welcomes SpaceX's collaborative approach. "With SpaceX setting an example, we are now hoping for the broad support from the whole  industry and regulators."

Elon Musk "The Moon Is Not What You Think!"...New Mineral Discovered!!

MISUNDERSTOOD INTENT: It had the reverse effect

“Needless to say, I was very shocked and saddened by the fact that anyone found wrong in what I was trying to do,” Cristal Johnson said. “I was trying to do a good thing, give back to my community and to find out that someone insinuated that I was trying to labor minors, that was… it was pretty sad.”

Alabama 8-Year-Old’s Lemonade Stand Reported To State Labor Department

"Needless to say, I was very shocked and saddened," his mother said.

While the phone call was unfortunate, it has had the reverse effect that the caller initially intended as now Cam and Cristal’s story has been broadcasted nationwide.
  • “It propelled us even quicker in our endeavor,” Cristal said.
  • “So I don’t harbor any ill will. I thank them and I hope they have some remorse themselves for doing what they did.”

An eight-year-old in Alabama’s entrepreneurial spirit was misconstrued this week. The child and his mother were reported to the state labor department for allegedly violating child labor laws via their lemonade stand.

Cam Johnson started a lemonade stand to raise money to take a trip to Disney World. His mother, Cristal, took the business a step further and put out ads for two children in her neighborhood to take on a “one-day apprenticeship” at the stand. The roles advertised were “smiler” and “greeter.”

“I was trying to teach them exactly what I’m trying to teach my son, just how to handle money,” Johnson told Fox & Friends First on Thursday (June 29). “Customer service skills. Teach the little boys how to shake hands correctly. And just little things like that. That’s all I was trying to accomplish.” Unfortunately, the intent was misunderstood by someone in the community; Cristal received a call from the Alabama Labor Department stating that someone submitted a complaint related to child labor.

INDIE WIRE TRAILER TEASER: “Killers of the Flower Moon”

Martin Scorsese’s films deserve to be seen on the big screen, and Apple is giving the acclaimed director’s latest the biggest screens possible. Scorsese’s upcoming Western epic “Killers of the Flower Moon” will receive a run in IMAX theaters upon its release, Apple announced Wednesday. The company shared the news along with the release of the full trailer for the film, which can be watched below.

Based on the non-fiction book of the same name by journalist David Grann, “Killers of the Flower Moon” is set in the 1920s on the Oklahoma land of the Osage Nation native tribe. During the turn of the century, oil was discovered in the area, turning the Osage into some of the richest people in the world. The new wealth of the tribe lead to tragedy, however, as at least 60 Osage were reported murdered between 1918 and 1931.

  • A FBI investigation into the murders eventually found cattleman William Hale (played by frequent Scorsese muse Robert De Niro) as the mastermind behind the plot to eliminate the Osage to gain control of the rights of their oil. The film follows the events of the murders through the perspectives of Hale’s nephew Ernest (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his wife, native Osage Mollie (Lily Gladstone). Jesse Plemons, Brendan Fraser, and John Lithgow also star in the film, which was directed by Scorsese based off a script he wrote with Eric Roth.

Scorsese’s first project since his 2019 Best Picture nominee “The Irishman,” “Killers of the Flower Moon” made its world premiere out of competition at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival in May. There, it was immediately received with rapturous acclaim, with critics particularly praising Scorsese’s direction and Gladstone’s performance.

In his review out of the festival, IndieWire Chief Film Critic David Ehrlich wrote that “Scorsese turns ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ into the kind of story that he can still tell better than anyone else: A story about greed, corruption, and the mottled soul of a country that was born from the belief that it belonged to anyone callous enough to take it.”

“Killers of the Flower Moon” will premiere in select theaters on October 6, followed by a wide release on October 20. The film will stream globally on Apple TV+ from a yet-to-be-announced date. Following the release of the film, Scorsese and DiCaprio will re-team with Apple for an adaptation of Grann’s latest nonfiction work, shipwreck survival story “The Wager.”

Trump on Truth Social Rant Today: DO THE PEOPLE OF THIS ONCE GREAT NATION EVEN HAVE A CHOICE BUT TO PROTEST THE POTENTIAL DOOM OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA??? 2024!!!”

Trump Ramps Up Calls for Americans to Hit the Streets on His Behalf: Do People ‘EVEN HAVE A CHOICE BUT TO PROTEST?’

Former President Donald Trump is escalating his calls for Americans to protest on his behalf.
In a post to his Truth Social platform Wednesday morning, the former president went on an all-caps rant denouncing the state of the country.

“MASSIVE PROSECUTORIAL MISCONDUCT IS CURRENTLY TAKING PLACE IN AMERICA. THE WEAPONIZATION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN,” Trump wrote. “CRIME & INFLATION ARE RAMPANT, OUR BORDERS ARE OPEN, OUR ELECTIONS ARE RIGGED, OUR ECONOMY IS IN SHAMBLES, OUR ENERGY INDEPENDENCE IS GONE, OUR “LEADER” IS MERCILESSLY MOCKED, & OUR COUNTRY IS BEING DESTROYED BOTH INSIDE & OUT. DO THE PEOPLE OF THIS ONCE GREAT NATION EVEN HAVE A CHOICE BUT TO PROTEST THE POTENTIAL DOOM OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA??? 2024!!!”

One can only presume that when Trump writes “OUR ‘LEADER’ IS MERCILESSLY MOCKED,” he is making reference to himself — given that few have mocked President Joe Biden more relentlessly than Trump.
Trump, on several occasions of late, has called for his supporters to hit the streets on his behalf. Such calls have gotten more scrutiny since Jan. 6 — although recent pro-Trump demonstrations have been very small.
