Why Is It That Mesa Mormon Republicans Can Make Private Fortunes Founding Publicly-Funded Charter Schools?

Investigative reporter Craig Harris, who writes for the Arizona Republic, once again has an updated report and another chapter in what responsible journalism can't call 'white-collar crime'.
Furthermore, who's gonna prosecute them - one of 'their own'????
As he documents with details this case of David Farnsworth, one of the scions of The Farnsworth Family Fortunes in a real estate empire named SUNLAND (and nearly everything attached to real estate in their ownership interests) who  might not have clean hands building and operating charter schools but nonetheless manages to skirt and side-track legal issues over the sale of his for-profit education foundation to transform it into a 'non-profit' - the $56.9 million deal, from which he'll pocket $13.9 million. It won't be the state lawmaker's last payday from the schools he's owned for decades.
In addition, the new corporate board hired Farnsworth's brother, David, to be executive director. His salary was not disclosed.

Here's a teaser for Craig Harris's investigative report:
Lawmaker Eddie Farnsworth nets $13.9 million in charter-school sale, keeps getting paid

"It's a pretty amazing success story."

'Wow! When will it end?'
State schools Superintendent-elect Kathy Hoffman said she was stunned and appalled by how much money Farnsworth was making.
"Wow! When will it end?" she said. "We should not have anyone profiting millions of dollars from a system that has been so severely underfunded."
Farnsworth said Hoffman and other critics of his sale are hypocrites because private companies profit from school districts by building schools and providing other services

It helps he's been in politics in the Arizona State Legislature (they write the laws) in both the House and The Senate.

Mesa Libertarian Attorney Michael Kielsky Goes After Governor Ducey To Hold A Special Election to Replace Revolving-Door Senator John Kyl

Hold on! The future might be coming faster. According to this report that broke just hours ago, Ducey and temp-appointed Kyl are still talking to get a handle on how to handle filling the job that the former Senator really didn't want? Turns out he bungled trying to shoo-in Martha McSally, but somehow managed to Sherpa-in Trump's choice to fill a seat on The Supreme Court. He says he's ready to go back to his high-paying job in the private sector.

Kyl said he held multiple conversations Ducey last week about his future. "He and I have had ... Doug Ducey's chief of staff resigns, sparking Senate speculation].
It's time - way overdue - to do exactly that in a new federal lawsuit where the plaintiff voters and other citizens of Arizona are represented by Michael Kielsky of Udall Shumway in Mesa, Arizona and Thomas Geoghegan of Despres, Schwartz and Geoghegan in Chicago.
Kyl, who served in the Senate from 1995 until his retirement in 2013, has already said he would not run in the 2020 election. He is only the sixth former senator to be appointed back into the Senate. He is also listed as a defendant.
AZ Governor Faces Federal Lawsuit Over Senate Appointee
by Jon Parton |
Citing the 17th Amendment, the lawsuit says, “the state legislature has no authority to mandate that a temporary appointee shall serve in lieu of or in preference to a Senator directly elected by the people, beyond any period necessary to hold an orderly election. The state legislature may not substitute its own choice or the Governor’s choice for a choice made by the people of the State.”
The complaint asks the court to order Gov. Ducey to hold an immediate election. As it currently stands, the state will not hold an election for the seat until the 2020 general election.
“As a result, plaintiff voters and other citizens of Arizona will be deprived of elected representation in the Senate for over [28] months, and will suffer irreparable injury from such a lengthy loss of elected representation in the United States Senate,” the lawsuit states. . . "

Piecing it Together A Framing Playbook for Affordable Housing Advocates

Opportunity 360 . . . basic information about every neighborhood across the country. 100,000 people have been on the platform in the last year
Published on Nov 27, 2018
Recorded live on November 26, 2018
Over the past two years, Enterprise has been working with a set of partners across the country to help build the capacity of the sector to better engage community residents. We partnered with the FrameWorks Institute to conduct research to help housing practitioners better understand the importance of framing as part of their work to advance opportunity through affordable housing.

The first paper in the series, You Don’t Have to Live Here, has become almost a staple in our industry for understanding how our messaging, when not strategically framed, can fail to deliver the support we need. We are pleased that this work has been well received and that there is a strong appetite to learn more, to get further guidance on critical policy priorities that now top our “to-do” lists, and to create overarching narratives that can withstand the political head-winds of the day.
In this webinar, we'll be discussing two additional resources produced with the FrameWorks Institute to provide additional guidance on how affordable housing messaging can be transformed for greater effect:
1 Finding a Frame for Affordable Housing: Findings from Reframing Research on Affordable Housing and Community Development.

This research report outlines the findings from a series of interrelated investigations aimed at finding effective frames on affordable housing.
2 Piecing it Together: A Framing Playbook for Affordable Housing Advocates.

To help ensure that affordable housing advocates can effectively deploy the research recommendations, this companion playbook translates the findings into a “how to” framing guide and clear set of “do’s and don’ts” for communications practice.
