VIENNA (AP) — Bulgarian singer Dara won the 70th Eurovision Song Contest
on Saturday with her infectious party anthem “Bangaranga,” giving the
southeast European country its first-ever Eurovision victory.
NOTE THIS: «Bangaranga» (a variation of the Jamaican Patois word bangarang) is a slang term that means an uproar, commotion, or a happy, chaotic riot.

term gained widespread recognition when Bulgarian pop star DARA used it
as the title of her dance-pop anthem that won the 2026 Eurovision Song
Contest.
Beyond its root meaning of a noisy disturbance, the word took on several subjective interpretations:
- Inspiration: The artist blended the Jamaican slang with traditional Kukeri folklore—ancient Bulgarian festivals where people dress in furry costumes, wear animal masks, and ring heavy bells to chase away evil spirits.
