Phoenix-based Red Development plans to break ground next week on Block 23, a mixed-use development in downtown Phoenix.
The third phase of the CityScape development will include 330 apartments, 200,000 square feet of office space geared for tech and creative companies, as well as a street-level Fry’s Food Stores supermarket.
It marks the first time a high-rise MXU in downtown has included a grocery store. The project derives its “Block 23” moniker from the original town map from 1885, which was reserved for civic functions.
The development team also includes Dallas-based StreetLights Residential, which is building the apartment component.
The City of Phoenix agreed to provide up to $18.3 million in financing.
Pre-construction excavations have commenced at the asphalt parking site located at 125 E. Washington St. near the Metro light rail line, north of Talking Stick Resort Arena. The project is scheduled to open in early 2019.
