Business-As-Usual / "The Mesa Way" > City Council Study Session 07:30 a.m. Thu 09 Jan 2020

Looking groggy, Hizzoner John Giles gets right off-the-bat sliding fast to say that everyone is present and accounted for, looking to his right then. and stating
"So far there are no items on or off the Consent Agenda . . ." ??????
and . . . then asks if anyone has concerns or questions.
Hizzoner the mayor wants to make a few opening remarks saying ""There's lots of good things to talk about" to start - one a congratulatory statement about the use of the city-owned Pomeroy Street Parking Garage and another about something else.
This study session is an eye-opener for rolling your eyes.
Soon, Vice-Mayor Mark Freeman takes over the meeting, joined by City Manager Chris Brady to inform the mayor that Item 6-b* has been removed from the Consent Agenda.
At the mention of Item 7-a  the discussion moves to proposed changes in parking spaces where both City Planning Director Kusi Appiah and Director of Downtown Transformation Jeff McVay  join in the hearing and discussion . . . It's hard to understand what the city's planning director saying. Mark Freeman joins in again saying he thinks Jeff knows where he's going here, including 2 city-owned parking lots.
This is all in the first 4 minutes - and off we go!
D4 Councilmember Jennifer Duff is curious,,, about two items not in her district
Item 7-a gets a mention

BLOGGER NOTE: Item 8 is not one of 'those good things"
Giles has a question on Item 8 and asks for a reminder for "what we're doing" >  He thought they were already in the public record, and gets some feedback from City Attorney Jim Smith

PUBLIC HEARING ON JANUARY 27TH
for approval of ordinances for what she calls RATE ADJUSTMENTS > These increases are in addition to the earlier residential charges. ... the 'verbiage' gets a lot of qualifications from both City Manager Chris Brady and Vice Mayor Freeman.
STAY AND SEE if the other three Mesa City Council members join in the hearings and discussions: D2 Jeremy Whittaker, D5 David Luna, and D6 Kevin Thompson

Who looks woke, ready and prepared??
Watch the body language you can see from the overhead Mesa Channel 11 cameras mounted on the ceiling - especially the hand-to-chin gestures that three people appear to be using in synchrony all at the same time.
That's just the opening sequence in the first few minutes of this 51:16 Study Session

*Item 6-b What is it?
[It is one part of Items 6-a, 6-b, and 6-c], referred to as "City Creek" by City Manager Chris Brady as when the actual reference in the items is Suburban Land Preserve, Inca
Readers of this blog can access, view, and read more information about City Creek using the SEARCHBOX.
The name "Mesa and Main Redevelopment" is used for the site that is the subject of proposed amendments for new agreements with for-profit affiliates of The Church of Jesus Christ of The Latter-Day Saints (LDS) for the real estate they own intended for investment to make a profit. City Creek in Salt Lake City is now under investigation for tax fraud.
