SAY WHAT?? ‘No individual alive has done more to divide America than Murdoch’ Fmr. Australian PM Turnbull says

On Monday, the trial begins in the Dominion defamation trial, which it is said will outline how Fox hosts lied to their audiences and riled up the MAGA base in the runup to the January 6 insurrection. That division and dishonesty created under Fox CEO Rupert Murdoch is discussed by the former prime minister of Australia, Malcolm Turnbull, who joins Joy Reid. Turnbull says on The ReidOut that Murdoch has done more to undermine American democracy than any other individual alive.

Fox on Trial: Rupert Murdoch’s Date With Destiny

Will the 92-year-old media mogul be able to steer his empire through an incoming legal maelstrom? On the latest episode of Inside the Hive, Brian Stelter and Gabriel Sherman, who have been following Murdochland for decades, spill the tea on what Monday’s trial could mean for the dynasty—and democracy at large.

Rupert Murdoch, the billionaire owner of Fox News, has arguably been the most formidable force in right-wing media and politics for over a quarter-century. But for the first time, perhaps ever, he and his network will find themselves in real peril. Crank conspiracy theories the network broadcast about the 2020 election and Dominion Voting Systems are at the heart of a massive $1.6 billion defamation suit, which is set to go to trial on Monday. For Inside the Hive’s first episode of its special season dedicated to the trial, join Vanity Fair special correspondent Brian Stelter as he breaks down the stakes for Murdoch, Fox News, and American democracy. He’s joined by special correspondent Gabriel Sherman, who unpacks Murdoch’s succession plans, his short-lived engagement, and of course, the impending courtroom drama. “It’s not like covering a normal publicly traded company,” Sherman explains. “It’s really like covering a royal family.”
