The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality's mission is to protect and enhance public health and the environment in Arizona.
Established by the Arizona Legislature in 1986 in response to growing concerns about groundwater quality, ADEQ today administers a variety of programs to improve the health and welfare of our citizens and ensure the quality of Arizona's air, land and water resources meets healthful, regulatory standards. ADEQ is committed to leading Arizona and the nation in protecting the environment and improving the quality of life for the people of our state.

The Drug Enforcement Administration is holding the bi-annual event to ensure prescriptions are correctly disposed of and don’t harm anyone’s health. ADEQ Director Karen Peters took a trip to the border city of Nogales, #AZ π΅ During her visit, she met with officials from the U.S. Section of the International Boundary and Water Commission and local partners, including #Nogales Mayor Jorge Maldonado. Director Peters also took a moment to explore the Nogales Wash, which collects flows from the Mexican city of Nogales, Sonora due to the natural conditions of the watershed. As an agency committed to environmental protection, Director Peters listened to the concerns raised and reiterated ADEQ's commitment to continued communication and collaboration with authorities from both sides of the border. Wildfire season is here π₯ Every year, ADEQ works with Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management to keep our communities and forests safe and healthy! Prescribed burns reduce the risk of wildfires by safely burning brush. The burns also help remove old vegetation to make room for new growth!
