Since 2010, the Authentic Brands CEO has snapped up and resurrected dozens of dying brands like Barneys and Brooks Brothers, fashioning a retail conglomerate that he says was valued at about at $17 billion this year.

But Salter doesn’t want to be a bottom-feeder forever and is now going after bigger game. After snapping up Sports Illustrated, Reebok and a majority stake in David Beckham’s lifestyle brand, he’s planning a potential listing as Authentic refashions itself from zombie retail king to “the world’s largest sports and entertainment licensing company.”
