Scott Smith (born 1956) is an American businessman and politician, elected as the 38th mayor of Mesa, Arizona, on May 20, 2008.
- He took office on June 2, 2008 and served until April 16, 2014, when he resigned to run for Governor of Arizona in the Republican Primary.
In 2013–14, he was president of the United States Conference of Mayors.
- He was previously president of both Great Western Homes and K. Hovnanian Homes.
- He has also worked in finance and as a business consultant.
- In 2016, Smith became been the chief executive of Valley Metro, the regional transit system operating in Phoenix and surrounding communities.[25] Smith announced his resignation from this role in 2021, effective 2022.

Expenses included flying first class, staying in a $600-a-night hotel, buying alcohol contrary to agency policies, and dining at pricey restaurants. The Republic found that Banta spent more than $2,200 on 10 Valley Metro dinners where he claimed to have entertained clients. At least some of the reported guests at those dinners told the newspaper they never attended the functions.
That story triggered a criminal investigation by the Arizona Attorney General's Office. Phoenix, the largest municipal member of Valley Metro, also launched an audit of travel and employee expenses.
Phoenix City Councilwoman Thelda Williams, a Valley Metro board member, said the city's audit should be finished in two to three weeks.
Williams said she was pleased by the board's selection of Smith.

It was not disclosed how much Smith would be paid. He and Valley Metro still are negotiating his compensation.
Smith, 59, spent 25 years as a certified public accountant. He was Mesa's mayor from 2008 to 2014, and was a major advocate for light-rail expansion in Mesa. He unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for governor in 2014. . ."
