Trump wrote on social media
he accepted the WHCA’s invitation in part to commemorate America’s
250th anniversary and also to make the event the “MOST SPECTACULAR
DINNER, OF ANY KIND, EVER!”

Since he returned to office, the Trump administration sought to ban the
Associated Press from covering events at the White House, filed lawsuits
against multiple media outlets he views as covering him unfavorably,
pushed for funding cuts to public media, revoked press credentials for
journalists covering the Pentagon, and used the Federal Communications
Commission to exert pressure on media companies. . . "
Statement on President Trump’s Decision to Attend WHCA Dinner
For more than 100 years, the journalists of the White House Correspondents’ Association have enjoyed an evening with the president, a dinner that celebrates the First Amendment while supporting the work we do including awards honoring excellent journalism and scholarships to help the next generation of reporters who someday will be the ones asking the questions at the White House.
We’re happy the president has accepted our invitation and look forward to hosting him.
