Now For Something Really Sexxxy > Got Your Attention?

Oral arguments begin next week, but this directive, as written, is way too broad.
Still interested in reading the story, or did you get turned-off?
Your MesaZona blogger is just in the mood to have some fun, to show you how news headlines can attract your attention - it can be called 'click-bait' that might hook you to take a look . . .
THE TAKE-AWAY:
Those in power dislike the public nosing around in their business and are forever looking to shield themselves from scrutiny.
But when that happens, the public needs to push back. Hard.
No matter which team is in charge.
And no matter how unsexy the details of the battle may be.
The War on the Freedom of Information Act
A conservative group is resisting congressional efforts to kneecap FOIA.
Source: The Atlantic
Does this opening grab your attention?
"The health-care clusterfudge continues. Senator John McCain has brain cancer. President Trump throws another public tantrum. Russia, Russia, Russia.
That about covers the Big Political Headlines of the week. Now for something really sexy: the creeping assault on the Freedom of Information Act.
Stop right there! No clicking over to that Tucker Carlson YouTube rant. This is another one of those ticky-tacky, below-the-radar issues that may sound like a nonprescription substitute for Ambien but is, practically speaking, super important—especially in the Age of Trump.
FOIA is what enables regular people to pester powerful federal agencies into handing over information about what they’ve been up to. FOIA’s website calls it “the law that keeps citizens in the know about their government.” Though a tad grandiose, that characterization is pretty much accurate. And never has such a tool been quite so vital as with the current White House, which has adopted a policy of unabashedly lying about pretty much everything. . . "
The ultimate goal is to stop lawmakers from undercutting one of the key tools the public has for keeping an eye on its government

Mayor John Giles Makes Appointments to City of Mesa Advisory Boards & Committees

Here's the press release from the City of Mesa Newsroom on 26 April 2017 at 11:24:00 AM
Mesa seeks to fill openings on advisory boards and committees
Link > http://www.mesanow.org/article
Are you passionate about open space and would like to help shape Mesa's next great park? Do you have ideas on how to provide greater transportation options for Mesa residents? If so, apply to be a member of one of our advisory boards and committees. Expertise from the community is needed for a host of positions opening up on the Parks and Recreation Board, Transportation Advisory Board and Judicial Advisory Board, to name a few.
Mesa residents are invited to participate in the process of City of Mesa government by serving on one of the City's citizen advisory boards and committees. Through this service, civic-minded citizens become involved in their local government and make recommendations to the Mesa City Council. The City, in turn, benefits from the knowledge, experience and expertise of citizens.
Each June, as board and committee members end their terms, new members are needed to take their places.

For information about advisory board and committee openings along with meeting information and application forms go to www.mesaaz.gov/city-hall/advisory-boards-committees.
If you are interested in serving and have questions about a specific board or committee, contact Ian Linssen at (480) 644-3002 or ian.linssen@mesaaz.gov.
Prospective board and committee members must complete an application form, which can be filled out and submitted online or printed and mailed.

Mail completed forms to the Mayor's Office, P.O. Box 1466, Mesa, AZ 85211, or fax them to (480) 644-2175.
The application deadline is June 9. All appointments to the boards are recommended by the Mayor and approved by the City Council.

Shelly Allen Back on the Board > Planning & Zoning Meeting Wed 19 July 2017

Defeated in the election as the hand-selected candidate to succeed Alex Finter and endorsed by Mayor John Giles and others in the entrenched political establishment to gain a seat for District 2 on the Mesa City Council, Shelly Allen was nominated and appointed to the PZ Board by the mayor.
PLEASE NOTE: To help readers of this blog deal with what's going in complex issues in front of the members, the agenda for this meeting is posted here after noting, once again that very members of the public or anyone at all in a city of over 475,000 bother to take the time to find out what is being planned.
