National LISC Updates

LISC Names Top Economic Development Official to Expand NYC Community Investments
LISC has tapped Valerie White, a senior official with New York state’s economic development agency, to be the new executive director of LISC NYC.
“Valerie is a remarkable individual who understands how to fully engage the public, private and philanthropic sectors in ways that catalyze opportunity for our communities,” said Maurice A. Jones, LISC president and CEO.
Sam’s Club & LISC Come Together to Support Small Businesses
Thanks to a $1 million grant from Sam’s Club, LISC will provide emergency assistance that small businesses desperately need during the Covid-19 crisis.
And it doesn’t stop there: Sam’s Club is mobilizing its members to support this effort as well.
Grants will focus on women-, minority- and veteran- owned businesses especially in underserved communities, to help bridge financial gaps and navigate the intricate web of public and private resources now available.

SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes covid-19, is an unobtrusive piece of biological machinery. It spreads parasitically through the respiratory tracts of human beings, often without provoking symptoms in those who carry it. Yet for some, particularly the old, it is deadly. This combination of properties make the pandemic both dangerous and difficult to stop. As of April 22nd it had killed 182,000 people.
