At a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, Ukrainian leader
Volodymyr Zelenskiyy was able to discuss a number of key issues on the
approach of sustainable peace in Ukraine.
He said this today, August 19,
during a briefing on the results of the talks in Washington, informs FREDOM. “It was our best meeting, and that’s important. We talked about a lot, a long conversation, in detail.
The key issue is security assurances. It is important that the United States makes a clear signal that it will be among the countries that will coordinate and will be directly participants in security guarantees for Ukraine. - I think this
is a big step forward.
- I can’t tell you in detail, but it is important
that there is already a political will and a political decision,” he
said.
Zelensky told his American colleagues in detail about the situation at the front.
- “I was able to show a lot on the map.
- Not according to rumors, but in reality - who controls what on the battlefield, " he said.

In addition, the parties discussed the issue of the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia.
“And the first lady of the United States Melania Trump, and the
team of President Trump, understand how painful this is. And we will
work on the return of our children. Different cases, different
approaches,” continued Zelensky.
The American leader also assured the President of Ukraine that he
would help in the implementation of the exchange of prisoners in the
format of “all for all”.
“We are talking about both our prisoners of war and civilian –
journalists, political prisoners. We agreed to work on it,” he said.
Donald Trump supported the option of a trilateral meeting at the level of the leaders of Ukraine, the United States and Russia.
“The United States is proposing to hold it as soon as possible.
But for this, the consent of all parties is needed,” Zelensky said.
After the talks in Washington, President Trump contacted the Russian
side and discussed possible diplomatic steps. Russia offered to first
hold a bilateral meeting between Ukraine and Russia, and then a
trilateral one.
