Venice marked the launch of its carnival season with a traditional canal parade on Sunday.
Gondolas and other boats passed en masse along the Cannaregio Canal crewed by people dressed in period costume.
"We took part in the carnival parade because we love our city, Venice," noted Valentina Macaluso, a member of a boating association that took part in the parade.
