Forecast Discussion:

Phoenix ozone yesterday exceeded at 6 different monitors, due to ample sunlight and stagnation at the surface. Similar trends will continue today, with ozone expected to exceed the federal health standard and into the USG AQI category.

An Ozone High Pollution Advisory is in effect for the Phoenix metro area today, and an Ozone High Pollution Watch is in effect for Saturday.

A relatively weak disturbance will move through the region tomorrow, increasing southwesterly winds and improving ventilation. Temperatures however will still be on the rise, reaching the triple digits and continuing to climb through the weekend. Calmer conditions expected on Saturday, transitioning back to afternoon windiness early next week. For this time of year, it is abnormal to see such active influence from disturbances moving through the region. This pattern is what's been resulting in lower than average temperatures for this time of year. Near average temperatures are expected to come back by next week as high pressure is currently expected to envelop the area.

Localized blowing dust is possible in the afternoons of tomorrow and Sunday, but no exceedance of PM10 (dust) is expected. Ozone will be the main story going forward.
