Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) huddled with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Capitol on Wednesday, with future support for the country being a focal point for world leaders in D.C. for the NATO summit.

Why it matters: The meeting marks the first time the two have met in person since Johnson put his own political career at risk by putting a sweeping foreign aid package on the floor in April.

Ok, Speaker Johnson, I have been supportive so far, but, the last aid bill to Ukraine ordered that the President / Administration MUST state some sort of strategic vision: What are our goals beyond a cessation of hostilities? All Russian forces out of Ukraine? Does that include Crimea? Just how do we and our allies and the Ukies get there? What will it really take? What do we get out of it / what is the future, short term and long term, if we fail? Even General Ben Hodges, a huge supporter of Ukraine, has repeatedly stated this sort of clarity of purpose needs to be presented. Lack of this was one of your main complaints, too. You must hold this Administration's feet to the fire!

We can only hope that when America gets attacked by China that Ukraine will have the courtesy to repay us the money back. China of course still holds trillions of U.S. dollars as leverage. We're getting into very dangerous brinkmanship here. The calculus is a logistical nightmare.
