Cultural Coalition has a new pop-up exhibit of Zarco Guerrero masks installed in the 111 W Main St windows in Downtown Mesa!
TAIKO NOH MASKS
These masks were created in 2023 specifically for Ken Koshio's Taiko Gumi drum troupe to perform in at our Mask Alive Festival that took place in March. Stop by to see the masks up close and learn more about Zarco's inspiration for creating these Japanese Noh Mask inspired performance masks.
This pop-up exhibit is part of the Mask Alive Museum & Cultural Center Guerrero Family Legacy Project whose mission is to provide a space for creative, artistic expression that exhibits a global collection of masks and art in celebration of the human cultural practice of storytelling. |

| Our arts and culture community recently lost an amazing, vibrant, creative soul with the passing of Diane Hunk Vanek - dancer, collaborator, friend, and muse.
Cultural Coalition Artist Director Zarco Guerrero spoke about his memories of her and their collaborations in a eulogy to Di... how much of an impact she had on the arts community, and specifically on his artistic journey.
"Di, you helped me realize a lifelong dream as an artist. I couldn’t have done it without you. And WE could not have done without you. You made it look easy and made sure we all had fun." |

FIRST DAY OF MARIACHI S.T.E.A.M. AZ |
|
| Monday was the first day of our Mariachi S.T.E.A.M. AZ Summer Program!
We had a great time learning about LEGO robotics from Albert of the iRise Foundation. Then we rocked out to mariachi music with instructor Desiree of Mariachi Estrella de Cobre.
Thank you to everyone who donated an instrument! We almost have enough for all our participants. We could use more violins and guitars if you'd still like to help!
