Celebrate Mesa Event Honors Earth Month

Celebrate Mesa and Mother Earth on Saturday, April 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pioneer Park, 526 E. Main St.

The Living Green Village, featuring nearly 30 exhibitors, will celebrate Earth Month with fun and educational activities about gardening, trees, recycling, and energy and water conservation:

Native Americans Tony and Violet Duncan will display their Water = Life story walk and provide hoop dance performances

Mesa's Household Hazardous Materials Facility and Swap Shop will offer spray bottles with natural cleaning recipes attached to discourage the use of dangerous household materials

Mesa Arts Center will host an area to make picture frames out of natural objects and there will be art activities like Origami in Nature

EVIT (East Valley of Institute) students will bring their Laundry Lab-EVIT Fashion Program featuring zero-waste garments and accessories

Mesa Urban Garden volunteers will be talking composting and vermicomposting with worms

Roberta Gibson, local author of the newly published book "How to Build an Insect," will provide a fresh look at insect anatomy

Noelle Johnson, the AZ Plant Lady, is a local horticulturist, landscape consultant and garden writer who helps people learn how to create, grow and maintain beautiful landscapes in a hot, arid climate

The Living Green Sustainability Stage includes yoga for kids, Mesa Library book readings and Rosetta, the Garden Fairy, providing fairy etiquette

Local businesses, such as Bookmans, Stardust Building Supplies and Revive IT, will have information on how to repurpose household items

Celebrate Mesa is the City's free family-friendly spring party in the park. It includes a petting zoo, live music, carnival rides, a game truck, food trucks and free raffle prizes. City departments will have booths with information and fun, interactive activities for children. The Mesa Police Air Unit and a Mesa Fire and Medical Department vehicle will be on display.

While admission and parking are free, there is a $5 fee for unlimited access to carnival rides, plus the rock-climbing wall.
