The City of Mesa Meets A Higher Authority: The Supreme Court

Where's the leadership here inside City Hall for inclusive Civil Rights for everyone  when there's a vacuum 'at-the-top' - the Mayor's Office?
John Giles has certainly paid "lip-service" to ending gender bias and discrimination, but never anything more except a pledge, like the good boy scout he might be listening to another master - his group of faith-based constituents that he cannot betray or break away from without jeopardizing his political base or future in politics. It's time for him to stand up on the home base of a diverse inclusive population of close to 500,000 people and do what's right..
Take some time to think it, John, but don't take too long
WASHINGTONThe Supreme Court announced on Monday that it would decide whether the Civil Rights Act of 1964 guarantees protections from workplace discrimination to gay and transgender people in three cases expected to provide the first indication of how the court’s new conservative majority will approach L.G.B.T. rights.

The Supreme Court will hear cases based on the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which forbids employment discrimination based on sex, and whether it applies to sexual orientation or transgender status.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has said the 1964 act does guarantee the protections. But the Trump administration has taken the opposite position, saying that the landmark legislation that outlawed discrimination based on race, religion, national origin and, notably, sex, cannot fairly be read to apply to discrimination based on sexual orientation or transgender status.
